Great work Elmo.
For us wind starved Sydney siders your spot is just paradise.
Fark, how long are the runs and the water is so flat!!
One day will make the cross continent trek and try Mandurah.
I may have given you a bit of a ribbing on the way past in race 2... Maybe I had been following you for the best part of 3 km
The racing was very close, in one of the races I was following Reg for most of the leg, I couldn't get close enough to pass, he couldn't pull away, we were dead even. Going 3 k's with only 10 metres separation between us says something about how evenly matched we were.
Of course this all changed at the gybe marker!
Never got close to Elmo though. Thanks for the vid, I think you managed to find a remix of the original hardcore mix (mine's a bit different). Thought I was the only deviant to have that one still kicking around!
Here's Race 3,
Finally sorted the soundtrack, still didn't come up right program kept leaving a blank bit between tracks Tried saving it 4 times @ 20mins a shot, gave up in the end, anyone got any good video editing prog's suggestions
Don't laugh to much at the Gumby start again
Watching your last vid just reminded me of this.
The thing that burns the most is when your coming back to the take off point (sandbar) after supporting the rest of the field on your shoulders (i.e. being the last bloke in), the smug buggers like Claude, slowie etc. etc. are coming back out for another quick run "just to fill in time"
Ah Elmo I'm onto you mate, you're just messing around at the start cos you like catching and passing, more fun than leading from the front
Great vid again, good to see you looking around
What program are you editing with ?
I saw The Charles Daniels Band perform live at the Perth Entertainment Centre half a life time ago
If you're dead set on having an underhand grip on the front hand, then make sure your new front hand is overhand. This is backwards to how most people do it, but it is the way this guy describes it:http://www.stormchasers.org.za/tips/mikefickgybe.html
In other words, your two front hands (old and new) have to be opposite grip to each other. This stops your elbows knocking together, and is THE tip for improving your rig flips.
To convince yourself, next time you're rigged up at the beach grab the sail as if you're sailing. Now start to flip the sail, and STOP when your new front hand grabs the boom. So you'll have one hand each side of the mast, and your arms will be crossed. Stay that way for a minute or so.
Try this with both hands undergrip, both hands overgrip, and then one each way.
I promise you'll be a convert
My new front hand generally ends up on top... I think
Never belted my elbows together, belted everything else but not elbows
{Edit}
Just had a look at my other vids pretty much all other gybes (bar one) are under to over.
Oh well back to the impact zone this arvy
{Edit 2}
Just read that article goes against all other which I've read but what I've been doing lines up (kinda) with it
3. Move your back hand about a foot farther back on the
boom, switch your front grip to palm-up to greatly aid the
second THROW you?ll see below, unhook without disturbing
the sail, and set your back foot on the rail behind the
front strap. You are still sheeted in, sailing in a broad
reach with your sail foot near the back of your board.
(Some expert jibers bear
off still hooked in, letting the harness pull them forward
into the correct weight-forward position. The few times
I?ve tried it felt good and worked well, but it has obvious
hazards.)
Over to over doesn't feel natural, but then again staying dry when cornering isn't natural either
Whatever works for you, do it!
If you naturally grab the new side in an overgrip then you're better off leaving your old front hand as under.
The only problem with this one (as opposed to starting off overgrip) is that this will bend your shoulders to the outside of the turn as you flip. Harder to keep the power on in this case.
Now next time I see you I'm going to pick your brains on how to go fast, my PB has stood for over a year now and I'm sick of it taunting me!!!
To all that competed (And watched the video/viewed the photos at:

Can I have your .gpx or .sbn GPS file from the day?
e-mail: gadget 'at' windsurfingperth . com . au
(replace 'at' with @ and remove the spaces between the dots)
It would be great to get as many as possible to add to the video
Thanks in advance
