I have a mauisails 2009 100% 460 SRS RDM mast. Is this sail compatible with my skinny mast ?
I've read that some sail brands come with two sets of cams- one for SDM masts, and the other for RDM cams. Note: I am a numpty in this area, sorry if this is a silly question. This will be my first race sail.

A guy said that he had some success with a 5.9 TR (unsure of the model) on an RDM, however he had to get Barry Spanier to send him a special set of cams and install some spacers. Not sure how this would translate to a bigger sail like a 7.6
Might be worth a try. Alternatively, these sails work fairly well on 75% SDM masts (SRS 75) if you wanted to buy another mast but didnt want to spend the $$ on a 100% model.

Hi J, most race sails still run SDM masts execpt for maybe in the smallest sizes, on the maui sails catalogue and website they only run SDM's ,KA supply RDM cams but at an extra cost and also only recomend for smaller sizes.,
Loft sails are the only ones I know off to run RDM on there race sails (blades)
Choco at barmera always runs these and pretty sure he has a 7 metre in buy and sell.
??? why so big in size, I run a 6.7 pryde RS4 as my biggest cam race sail on my 117 litre board and get going easily on the lighter days, are you going to run it on your 115 OES board if so feel free to grab my 6.7 on the longweekend at Beachport for a try.
you will really stuggle if you drop a 7.6 cam sail out the back at north haven and the big luff fills with water, i ALWAYS wear a floatation vest (NP) when i sail in the sea with my cam sails as i have had bad experiences in the past with not being able to fly the sail to water start especially with the never shorter boards when the boom doesn't rest on the tail of the board,

The larger sizes are designed for SDM masts. I use the carbon 75 SDM in my 5.1 tr-4 and it works well - rotates and looks good. I hope to use it at Sandy point and Lake George in the next month

I've been using a 7.5 Severne Overdrive on a 460 skinny using rdm cams and it rigs fine.They take a bit of patience to do the initial setup but once they are rigged correctly they run just fine.
The only negative is that if you forget to use the rdm for that sail and try to fit a sdm instead it is a total head ....... The thing with cammed sails once the sail is set up its for that mast only. I imagine you will even have to tweak it for a different brand mast the same size and diameter.
Personally I would (have) bite the bullet and use sdm for cammed sails and any issues that could arise shouldn't.Cams can wear out with a lot of use and you then have to chase up another set,a relatively easy job here in WA with Severne. NP flotation vests are worth every cent you pay for them too.
Hey J just had a look at it has a long boom at 228, the biggest i run is 205, you will need to make sure you have a stiff enough boom to fit, a boom at full extension has a lot of load in these bigger sizes and a lot a breakages occur, lots of cash to upgrade to carbon for your least used sail. try and borrow a sail around 7.5 for a quick blast at beachport, I think big kyms dad dave has a mauisails about that size.

Thanks for your replies. In Adelaide, it's either moderate, or blowing it's racks off. I have four sails, and my most used sail (and biggest) is a 09 Mauisails 6.8m Global (onshore power wave sail). It's an excellent sail. It's baggy, goes up wind really well, but a bit heavy for my liking. This sail is mostly great, but sometimes, it just doesn't have enough mumbo to be planing along comfortably.
At the end of the year, I want to buy a new KA sails rig in the 7.5 or 8m size. Looking at either a Koyote or a Koncept. .. but this is going to be $2000, which I don't want to pay at the moment (I'm about to collect a brand new board next week). So, to get me through the 12 knot days until then, I was thinking about getting a 2nd hand mauisails sail for around the $200-$400 mark that has a bit more power and rigs onto my existing mauisails 100% carbon skinny mast.
After reading your responses, I think getting a race sail is a bad idea. I'm not that good at carve jybes yet, and I sail in ocean. I also don't want to buy another mast.
