Hi guys, been travelling for 6 months & finally had a windsurf & foil today in Barmera SA with the locals, Choco & Hamma??
Went to download from the Mini Motion & can make no sense of the instructions for either downloading files or updating software.
Surely it's not that hard, Julien's web site doesn't even come up like it's shut down.
Can someone give me basic step by step instructions because I'm obviously missing something.
- Press the button for 4 seconds then release to start the device,
- wait for the 3 battery level blinks,
- press the button twice to enable WiFi,
- wait for the LED to become permanently green,
- search for a "Motion XXXX" network in your computer/smartphone/tablet available networks,
- connect to it,
- start your web browser,
- type 192.168.0.1 in the browser address bar, press ENTER.
- do your thing, it works like any other website,
- shut down the device by pressing the button for 4 seconds,
- wait for the LED to become red for 4 seconds confirming shut down,
- reconnect your computer/smartphone/tablet to your own WiFi network.
- Or email me: julien@motion-gps.com
Once familiar with this fail-safe system, you can also have the Motion connect to your own WiFi networks so you can keep your computer connected to the internet at the same time and enjoy the terrain map view of your runs.
- Make a note of your device identifier, you'll need it later. It's the 3-4 digits number in the WiFi network name, or at the start of your log files.
- Connect to the Motion embedded website as described in my previous message, the "classic way".
- On the website, reach the settings page.
- Fill in one of the four forms about WiFi login/password.
- Press the button 2 times to exit the classic WiFi connection mode.
- Reconnect your computer to your own WiFi network.
- Press the button 3 times to enter this new WiFi connection mode.
- The LED will alternate red/green while it searches for your network(s).
- The LED will become permanently green if it found your WiFi network and connected to it. Or the LED will be red for 4 seconds if it either failed to find your WiFi network or failed to connect to it (wrong login/password?).
- If it went green, you can now enter motion-IDENTIFIER in your computer web browser address bar. If your identifier is 915, use motion-915.
- You should now be on your Motion embedded website without disconnecting from your own WiFi, still be connected to the internet, and if you check one of your logs and click on your #1 500m run and your #4 500m run, you'll get the chart comparison of both runs but also see both runs on a map with terrain pictures.
Entering your own WiFi login/password through the classic connection must only be done once. From now on, all you have to do to connect like this is start the device and press the button 3 times.
Thanks for the details on how to connect to the home wifi Julien, I've been trying to figure this out. Is it 2.4 or 5 GHz as my router has both.

Thanks Julien, it's the 192.168.0.1 that's not working, says it doesn't exist.
I will try again today.

AUS 808 > are you on a MacBook maybe? I know some users had to remove some restrictive measures to reach 192.168.0.1. The easiest trick to diagnosis this is to try any other WiFi device you have at hand. Android, iPhone, iPad, smartphone, tablet, anything with WiFi should work.
The other usual culprits are:
- writing 192.168.0.1 in the search bar instead of the address bar so your browser is trying to reach Google/Bing instead of accessing 192.168.0.1 directly.
- the browser turning 192.168.0.1 into httpS : // 192.168.0.1 instead of http : // 192.168.0.1 thus searching for a Secure website which Motions don't provide.

What device are you using? Laptop or phone?
My android phone(s) require a workaround, which I have documented - logiqx.github.io/gps-guides/devices/motion/wifi.html

Thanks Julien, got it working & downloaded my files.
We are not always in an area where we get good or any internet so makes things more frustrating ??
Not sure I understand your last sentence. Your Motion creates its own WiFi so it will work anywhere.

I was trying to download updates thinking that was the problem
