Any updates from the world of GPS hardware?
Suunto Ambit2? Trace (from alpinereplay.com)? Flysight?
Anyone heard any news from users of these devices or any updates from locosys lately?
There was some chatter last year, but not sure if anything has moved on.
Dylan.
Dylan,
Some interesting leads discussed recently here:

I'll update on the other thread when I get an update from Catapult, if its appropriate to do so.
Would be great to hear of anything from Locosys..?
At least Suunto Ambit watches won't export SBN or SBP like data anytime soon.
The thing is that they use a fixed size of bytes for each log point according to the conversations we had with Suuntos product manager. They would need to add some more values like HDOP, SDOP, VSDOP, SVCnt and SVList to get the data for SBP files. However this will be too much for the average user the watch was designed for. So we have to wait until they do a configurable logging system based on the sports mode (i.e. Windsurfing/Surfing would log more bytes than for example Running).
That's really a shame, because the watch is using the SirfStar binary protocol as the GT-31 does. You can see it from the log*.xml files on your computer. They have the exact same comments as in the protocol specification.
I thought about a custom firmware, but Suunto does not provide dev-kits.
Btw, did you consider adding .ubx support to ka72.com?

If a format is supported by GPSBabel, then I can get ka72.com to support it.
Email me off-list if you want a new format supported.

I asked Michael, who is the designer of Flysight, how the he was progressing with the windsurfing version of Flysight about a month ago and this was his reply;
"Unfortunately, progress has been slower than I'd hoped in the past couple of months. I was able to get a prototype board assembled over the Christmas break, and some basic firmware written, but other work has kept me from developing the firmware further, and I suspect the next couple of months will be similarly busy. I'm hoping to continue work on the firmware this spring/summer, but at this point I'm afraid I can't put a tighter timeline on development. "
So, unfortunately it does not appear as though it will be market ready in the near future...
