Actually, it was 'Speed Fortnight' of course!
Here are two Legends of our sport running the course. Can you name both?
Is that Al Green kneeling in middle wearing singlet. He was the one who first introduced me to GPS sailing around that same time.

Yep
74 is Chris "Slowboat" Lockwood. Maybe Tom Chalko behind??
First pic is from left to right I think Dale, Matt Robertson, Al Green, Ricky Packham. bottom row.
Ian Knight, Kato, Luca Sansalone, Dan Engdahl, Vando & Tom Chalko.

Spot on! Well done!
Just as well we didn't run a Speed Fortnight this year. It was the first time I cam remember where we didn't get any big Fronts AT ALL for the whole of September-October!
I just look at those dunes and cry a little bit
What's happened to the dunes? Its been 15 years since I have sailed there but was planning on a revisit shortly.
Good times
I would recognise this stance anywhere!
Too true

I don't think that's Vando in between Dan and Tom, it's Craig.
Yer its not me had to look twice though must be my twin brother
I was there somewhere
up until this year 2008 was the last time i was there. I did 4 years in a row 2005/6/7/8 just doesn't seem to blow regularly any more.

Yep its all in those hips

Hey Dean the potential is still there but its much harder to get going at the start with those dunes compared to 2008.

Funny Mike, I was looking and looking but not seeing you, good to know dementia hasn't got me yet
Great pics Daffy.
Just a month before I got into GPS Speed Sailing but I missed the event. I had a Carbon Art SP40, one 2008 4.4 Koncept and one KA 20cm Speed fin and no bloody idea other than 21 years experience in other disciplines. Great times with terrific sailing buddies.

2008. It was awesome... except for the fact that the GFC hit about the same time and I was looking for a job at the time... but other than that the sailing was great!
It must be about time for another decent season. I think Sandy Point must be about the only place I have needed to wear a wetsuit. Brrrrr!
Sad that we don't have GPS tracks of your 2008 speed week to view
You have one now

Another Aussie legend. AFAIK, he is the only Aussie to win an international Windsurfing speed competition, and on a board and fin he built himself. When and where?
Not many pics of him on a slalom board either!

Mal Wright? There's that great wide world of sports segment of the 89 speed trials at sandy point where peter dans is interviewed and a young jp was a competitor.Mal hit 41 knots - what was the fastest in the world at the time.

Yeah Mal Wright. I think you're right Daffy. No other Aussie had won an international event. It was the second? St Maries de la Mer 1989 speed event at The French Trench. He used Neil Pryde RAF Speed sails and I think in the next event at Sotavento (1989?) Mal had custom RAF Speed sails in stunning purple and monofilm and was joined by Peter Dans using bright yellow sails. Must have impressed Neil in France with the win!
Firebob, I have been cranking video with additional tele lens.
Then took few still shots .
I may post 1 hour video one day on Youtube and maybe by a chance somebody could recognize himself on that day 24-Jan-2009 at Sandy Point.(?)
