I flew over this river mouth a couple of months ago and thought what a great speed sailing spot and only just north of Cairns, the ruler is a Nm
Only two problems, wind direction and croc's, it's the Daintree River mouth
I'll see what Troppo says when he's in town
What's the prevailing wind direction for that spot?
Also looks like access might be a bit of a challenge too...
Big enough Choco, sad to say a young fella was taken further upstream recently
Shame because the water was like glass when I flew over.
Might have to learn to croc hop
cairns local tea bagger here, we had a run in there last week and it is glass, and clean wind. just not real deep when the tide is low enough to expose the sand bank , certainly worth looking into, with some friends around i would think it was worth it
Hey treedweller, why's it only worth it with friends around?? Do you secretly sprinkle them with paprika before going out.
Here's a spot that looks OK, Hook Rf Circular Quay Reef (thanks Yoyo)offshore from the Whitsundays. The ruler is 8 km long.
pretty much, meercat philosophy more eyes looking out for "logs" . with just 2 of us there we did not have the balls to do anything but scream up and down a few times in the perfect flat water then ride away giggling.
I bet there are some big fish with sharp teeth in that channel.
By the way sailpilot , according to my map your image is of Block Reef and Circular Quay reef. Hook and and Hardy reefs are slightly west of your image.
Good spotting yoyo, tis infact circular Quay Reef, not Hook. Looks like it lines up well with the predominant SEers here. Wouldn't worry about Noahs though, there's enough snorkellers to keep them satisfied
Looks to be about 80k's off Airlie, so just need someone to lend a bunch of windsurfers their maxi yacht for a few weeks and no doubt could get there. If the yacht had free food and drinks with topless waitresses that would be sure to attract a crowd.
Hey Firie. S'pose if you look hard there are some good potential spots up this way here are a few more that I will be looking at in the next few weeks. Both not to far south of here and might be good in S through to E.
