Hmmm, I have looked at the original closely. No kite but there is a clear mono sail in the background. :-)
I had to look though because Jay Roadley was playing around with a kite pulling himself around on various windsurfers and surfboards at these events long before anyone had thought of 'Kitesurfing'. In hindsight, he was waaaay ahead of his time. Hell, he probably invented the sport. We all thought he was slightly nuts.
Actually, he was not anything like the devil incarnate, he was actually a really good guy!
I remember Jay Roadley doing mega speed runs throught the traffic at Merimbula way back. He was on some small board but was absolutely flying in dead onshore conditions. He was out there
Is that really the Adrian from the Fire Station??
Havent seen you for years, amazing!!
Hi Tony,

Hi Adrian,
I'm "only" 100kg - no weight jacket... 4.4 seemed to work ok. I've got a weight jacket now and with 25 kg in it I'll be the same as Spotty Might even give the 5.0 a go next time is that windy. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I usually use the 5.8 in mid to 30's so i could have used the 5.0.(never used that one either...) For the first time ever I went for efficiency instead of power. Another 5 kn and it would have been perfect...Pretty sure Daffy wasn't on the 5.0. He uses the 4.4 in 25!!!!
cheers Tony
Wasn't it fun though! Don't think it mattered much whether you used the 5.0 or 4.4 Tony. If you took off in the 50+ gusts the 4.4 should have been ample and there were heaps of those. Remember Antoine set his record in 55knots of wind with a 5.0 and he's about as good as it gets! See ya next time it's 50 knots - I'll be more prepared. Only got wet twice since May 16!
Greetings Speedsters!,
firstly thanks for all your congratulations and messages here and on GPSTC, GPSS.
Those of you who had a crack at it, or even stood around in that howling wind and sand would of felt the buzz, or had your hair stand on end before hitting the water in anticipation of a beating from Huey, yes definately a day to remember. Not just for my speeds but also those who PB'd, Tony W's 49.48pk and new 46.2 5x10 are a big step up, along with Daffy and Adrians B's pk's in the lightwieght dept'.
So.. I guess I had my day, and now feel the 50 is there for the taking for more than a few after going over the data, wind angle and water conditions. I was just getting wound up and into it before the chop got so bad at that speed (~90kph) that it was time to back off or crash out badly. Antoine's 49.09 500WR really was not that far away I guess
Here is my data from Super Sunday,
GT31 48.697av 500m, Step/dip at start ~40 was a tailwalk passing last sanddune/wind funnel
GT31 ~50 peak with 47.165av 500m, ~30 step was pinching up around Tim S to get as close to bank and lined up for the slingshot.
GT31 Doppler Data
Garmin Fortrex trackpoint Data
bloody hell spotty,
i've been trolling this thread waiting for the data to be posted. that is impressive!! well done. i can't imagine going anywhere near that quick.

Andrew, Allan here from NSW, I also have an old video of Jay kite sailing back in the old days, I could put it in the foum if I knew how!! but give me you're address so I can send a DVD to you. by the way thanks to all the pit crew for all you;re hard work and comradship, you are never too old to learn from the masters.
Hey Allan!
It's Adrian Bonomi! Big G'Day from Melbourne. Moved here in 2004 after a few years in London. Hey I remember that jump in your avatar at Narabeen Lake - I was there that day! Sorry to have missed you at the PIT. That was a memorable day and by far the strongest consistent wind I've sailed in. Anyway left my details with Lydia. See ya next time!
