We all love going fast and hearing about our mates stories of going fast and how they did it, share them here!
Would love to here about your top speed (peaks, alphas, km, whatever), equipment you were using and conditions you did it in.
i dislike gps as advantage in sailing on flat water is with the fat c's.
What has made a difference for me is using a very soft fin [vector 34cm rockit] in the stronger wind.Carbon fins provide more lift for same area but in gusts you need more strength and better technique to keep the board driving forward.
The 36cm rockit is much wider and stiffer. For my small size i struggle to get anywhere near the top end out of this fin, but used with a larger sail it stops me from going sideways.
The 34cm is awesome in 20 knots plus with 6m or less.
My favourite combo,i-sonic 90, 34cm fin and 5.7m Warp 2011.
Next best combo sonic 90, 36cm fin,6.5m code-red.
Use my 7.7m,Fanatic 111 litre,44cm Choco fireblade in really light wind as feels so heavy and slow, max around 25 knots i think.
Most of the time (90%) im on a 7.8 with a 120 litre (was a futura now a lorch) and when powered up can get around the 28knot mark most of the time. Using a 44cm fin.
In higher winds ive used 7m & 5.7m Ram on Falcon 95, my speeds havnt really been much better :(
I did have one session on the 5.7, North side of wello point sand bar in a sw wind, flat water and felt i was really moving, except the GPS didnt work aarrgh haha. That happens.
Have only just started baring of the wind to get some peaks so we will see what happens.
