This is doing my head in ! . My two slalom boards (both non-JP boards, noting I've never had this issue with JPs) foot straps always seem to twist around the fastners causing feet to move closer to centreline and foot removal from these straps difficult. The original straps that came with these boards were the worst, and improvements were had by replacing them with JP straps. I also use a technique Boombuster taught me a few years ago of using a big #4 Philips screw driver and a shifting spanner to really torque the strap screws. After a lite session, I still find my straps a little twisted. The screw holes in these boards are fine. The fastner and strap brackets just can't seem to grip the strap enough. It's almost like I need metal bracing in the strap to stop it twisting.

I noticed the new slalom/speed JP models have 4 fastner design like the Freestyle boards (which this freestyle design has been around for at least 2009). Why wasn't this good design implemented years ago on slalom boards ?. Patent issues ?

Regarding Philips strap screws, is there hex bolt designs on the market ?. It would be nice to replace the big philips/shifter/Chinese burn with a small 1/4" ratchet.

Weight . Adding bigger or more strap plugs and 8 more screws will add another 200 gm.
Two screws each end are great . No more twisting . Don't even have to do them up tight .

The metal strips above were supplied with my Simmer slalom boards and they simply don't work at all.
Instead I mounted the S4lt anti twist set on these boards and that works perfectly.

The metal claw washer above, in conjunction with the anti twist insert underneath

www.surfsailaustralia.com.au/product/goya-footstrap-anti-twist-washer#surf-sail-clothing-hardware

That has never failed me, zero twist.

The pictured DaKine one that Choco posted has two pegs that presumably engage in the pad? Cos they'd miss the insert holes (wrong orientation)?

And This is what I don't understand about the slalom/race style: The market demands super thin/light boards, and then riders put a very heavy cammed sail on it.

Choco: I tried the Goya antitwist washers. Still had a bit of twist, but that was with the original straps for the boards. Not the JPs for technical reasons (discussed below). As for the Dakine solution, it looks very similar to JPs ?. But will investigate. Thanks.

Mark: The Goya solution looks very similar the JP straps I am using (see pics below). I did consider using the Goya Metal washer on top, but then I would need longer screws (which I don't know how to obtain. The special screws in standard size are hard enough to get), because the JP anti-twist system is recessed land for the fastner. Also, on the non-JP boards, this JP anti-twist system seems to scrape the board surface and allowed to move. Therefore, are not very effective in these boards. This is why I am seeing twist in these boards. It's like the JPs have a harder board surface that is designed for their anti twist design. I've just never had this problem with JPs . It's a mystery.

Once your pads get flattened there is almost nothing you can do, the solution put forward by Mike helps, it is what I use on my boards, but it is not foolproof. I still stripped an insert on my Starboard probably because of the amount of torque I had to apply to keep it from rotating ...

This is an interesting idea en.s4lt.de/atw277 but I have not tried it.

The real solution is to have double inserts, something that if done at the factory adds grams to a board. Only reason most manufacturers don't do it is probably because they put in all this extra (mostly useless) options for strap positions, and then you would have rows and rows of plugs on your deck.

My AV Modena has double inserts and it is just lovely to be able to count on those.

I also use the Goya Footstrap Anti Twist Washer. They work well. Never had any twist with them.

The S4LT Anti twist system works great, I have it on my foil board. They are expensive though.

I'm honestly surprised board manufacturers don't provide some sort of anti twist mechanism as standard with a new board, given they provide the footstraps.

There's at least two who do, but i was quite surprised when a new board i got had nothing, just straps. Surely they've been making boards for long enough now to know that single screw straps twist?

On my Av Speed board I could only get the double screws in on the back straps, the front holes didn't line up for double screws even though there were plenty of holes.

Oh well ... all 2021/2022 AV Modena have double inserts, don't know about the other boards on the line. Which AV speed do you have?

2021 Speed 45, I prefer single screw straps because they tighten around your feet better

Thanks for posting this, that looks quite promising. Should be easy to print on a 3D printer, but then you'll have to find the screws that go in the sides, so ordering should be easier. Every board I have came with some kind of anti-lock system, and they all worked for a while. But if you let the foot strap screws work themselves loose, the commonly used inserts can rotate and tear up the pads, and after that, they don't work anymore. I have broken a screw or two trying to tighten them a bit too much on older boards.

I had my first proper speed sailing session yesterday for a very long time. Very happy with the S4LT solution. Thanks Duzzi again
