First off, thanks to Yoyo for his considerable time and effort in maintaining this over the past few years.
In chatting yesterday at the Crasher Cup Fizzer, it was suggested that the WWA Website would be a good place to continue this record. Lao Shi has kindly offered to administer this record, on the proviso that tracks are emailed to him for checking and inclusion, rather than he, as Yoyo did, scouring the GPSTC website etc for data.
I am suggesting the table be based on the best ten second run in WA waters, by a sailor of any origin. So it's a record for WA waters, not WA sailors, and it's a single ten second run, rather than two seconds, which is possibly a bit short to be entirely accurate.
The alternatives would be the traditional 500m, as per the world record, the 5 x 10 sec, or leave it at 2 seconds. I think 10 sec works best as there are more spots in WA where a good 10 may be possible, whereas 500 is not (Pt Walter and Woodies spring to mind).
KA72 also spits out your best 10 sec so it's easy to do.
Thoughts / suggestions?
I will start to assemble a table to be placed on the WWA website.
Please send your tracks in .sbn format (where possible (GT11/31 or .gpx garmin)
This table is for speeds by any sailor in WA waters.
All non-doppler speeds will be clearly marked.
send to dville123456 at yahoo dot com
Please include name (or alias) equipment details, location and if posted on GPSS or GPSTC a link to the post.
From a blow ins point of view 10sec sounds good. Sending files to Mark is the go as we'd only do that with an improvement.
Does the table start Jan 1st 2011 or since GPSTC started like Yoyo's table had before ?
Hey Firie,
The idea is for a historical table so send us ya best WA track.
We discussed an idea to use 500m to allow data from pre GPS competitions to be included but it is a lot more difficult to find a 500m spot.
The table would be for all time so dig out your best 10 sec and fire it off to Lao Shi.
The 40 knot club is going to be pretty elite at this stage; only three members I think; Slowy, Dan & 25.

Following on from this thread
Do people want me to include the unit used in the ranking?
I will be using a single file unless people wish to supply 2.

Love your work Mark
Firie I am in there to send you further up the table. think of me as an extra in a cast of stars
Interesting there are two entries in there using the very same sail - (2010 5.7 Koncept) Must be a good one!
I think I need to be deleted from the list as I cant produce the file, dilutes the list and leaves loopholes open Teach me for not doing regular back-ups on my external hard-drive which I specifically bought for hard=drive failure but only bothered to do 2 back-ups in 2 years Then hard-drive failed
Who votes to keep Hardie's speed?
I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt as it took him so bloody long to get it
Mark , as you can see Dan was using a 26 Falcon.
As for Hardie, perhaps you can do a pro rata deduction for the 10s based on the average difference between the 2s and 10s of those above him on the table.
Re Hardies file
My GPS card still has files on it back to 2007, I don't delete.
GPSSS would have checked it anyway
Like the GPSTC, it's an honor thing
I vote against Hardie, he's arrogant, overweight, triple chinned, has man boobs, and not to be trusted....... oops I just realised Hardie is me
One for the data gurus out there.
Is this run ok?
Drop in sats to 6 and jump in HDOP to 3.5. (My realspeed has limits set to 5 and 4)
Doppler and trackpoints seem good and not spiky.
