Today I heard some great news, and I am quite excited about it!
An automated weather station is being built right now at Yanakie, only a few Km's from Shallow Inlet. It should be in operation fairly soon. No idea what that actually means.............
It will be maintained by the BOM and readings will be available through the normal BOM services.
I gather it is on Pridhams farm on the Prom Road. You may have seen an airstrip and hanger a couple of Km's north of Yanakie village. That appears to be the location. From what I remember it is on a fairly open flat part of the isthmus and should give wind readings comparable with the Inlet, especially with Easterlies. I would expect it to read a bit lower than the PiT in WSW but maybe not a lot less. Time will tell. The anemometer will be on a 10m tower which should reduce the ground effect quite a lot.

Now all we need is on somewhere near Millicent or Lake George! The is NOTHING within hundreds of KM's of it! The weather station run by the SE Surface Water on the lake seems to be calibrated for something other than actual wind speed...........
Thats good news for you daffy,
there is a bom site at robe airport about 40 k's away from lake george.
