My GW60 died again . Number 4
Id like to replace it with something better. I dont mind if its in a pouch on my arm.
What is there that is easy to connect to the KA72 site via a cable to my computer ?
It has to be easy cos I gots little computer smarts.
Where would I get one from and how much are they ?
Thanks
If not posting to GPSTC then get a Garmin 245 music (Rebel sports $289) and install my app
If are are posting to GPSTC get a Garmin 245 music and a mini Motion $169 (www.motion-gps.com)
Trouble is the delivery time frame for motions is somewhat elastic, although the web site says "available in a week"
That's it I'm not saying another word.
Then go for mini motion (wifi no cable needed for upload, fairly easy to get set up) plus the Garmin Tbwonder suggested for on water speed/distance info. There may be someone on here with a spare mini you can buy, the spare ones I had sold now, if no luck I've asked Julien to buy a few more, he's waiting for casings for the minis to come in next few weeks so might have them here by Feb/March. Alternative is see if anyone prepared to sell you a used bt31 but they get snapped up faaast
Last I heard Sailquick had spare minis, you could try PMing him
The other thing about the mini, is you can upload to KA72 and GPSTC from your phone at the beach.
totally water proof as it's completely sealed, induction charging and wifi connection, no cables needed.
Fits your description perfectly

Hy, the Forerunner 245 without music can be also valid as the music version? or there are important differences between the two devices? Thanks a lot for your reply

Hi tbwonder,
In terms of the Garmin watch, which app do you use please? do you need download by yourself? or already in the watch.
Cheers!
Thanks guys , I have a mini motion on order . I also have a old bandless GW60 which works great , just doesn't download , for on water checking.
I was amazed when I compared the old and new watch . Both gave exactly the same readings even though the broken one was in my shorts pocket . It would just lose a bit of track after a water start.

Hi Imax
Some thoughts on your issue with GW60
This is from my own experiences
Maybe the download issue with the GW60 is -
A- The cable has a fault and is semi broken, I could only charge with my cable but not download, I tried a friends cable and it then worked so I got a new cable (that fixed it)
B- Another windsurfer had the same problem and in this case his cable was fine but we had to clean the four watch contacts with nail polish remover, this worked for him
C- After having watch 12months I decided to place my GW60 in dry pack on my upper arm now 6 months on, and wow it is so reliable to connect and keep working
I hope his helps, it is shame to give up on it as they do add some joy to a day on the water, and it costs nothing to try these things
Best of luck
Cheers
Rod

Thanks Rod,
I had a brand new cable and tried that also. It's not the cable .
I also cleaned the contacts by cutting an ear bud in half and putting it in a cordless drill. The contacts are as shiny as a mirror .
The shop has it now and they are checking . It is only four months old but it is a warranty replacement on one that drowned and filled with water . Total time of owning both watches is more than a year so it will be interesting what they do.
I do like the idea if putting the watch in a dry pack.
Its sad they have so many issues.

That is a very sad outcome Imax, I hope your case is heard by the shop and Locosys,
Happy windsurfing
I bought a Garmin 245 watch today and there is a windsurfing setting already on watch
Any ohoto please?
Windsurfing settings.
Thanks!
I know it does not work with the team speed site, but I am loving my coros. Has a built in windsurfing and speedsurfing app. Way better battery life than my garmin. Not cheap at all though

That's been holding true for a few months for europeans ordering a single Mini. It's different for australian teams ordering 12+ Mini. With parcels leaving tomorrow, I think the whole Mini queue will only be 4 devices deep. So January 1st, I start with a clean sheet.
Back to the OP's question. Not for GPSTC and not the "best" but the simplest watch I use on the water is a Timex Ironman GPS. All I want it for is to see the time of day and distance covered on the water, then upload track data later off the water.
Simple to configure and use, no programming needed, microUSB cable (none of those proprietary cable connectors), good battery life in both watch mode and GPS mode, easy to change band (press fit pin). The FIT file upload to Timex Connect shows track, speed profile as well as max speed, and other infos. Timex Connect also uploads directly to strava, which I use to archive sessions.
About $85 USD on amazon. I have two of them, which I have been using for two years already. When I use the Timex on the same arm as my GW-60 the results are virtually indistinguishable, except the max speed, which is usually 2-3% different. I think this comes from different filtering algorithms.
