Yamba - The Wall
GPS Tracks....the line is 1.2 Nm long. Soooooooo good in a N/Easter
from the NSW forum - but worth sharing
it is an awesome spot, i'm going to try take monday off next week to make it a 4 day long weekend and go down and stay with my parents.
here is a vid i made last year when i was sailing there
hey vando its not that hard to pick, thou the seabreezes so far this season haven't been that good.
its a pretty short drive thou, was just under a 3 hour drive from where i used to live in st lucia. i'm on the southside now, so hopefully once the highway upgrade bypassing ballina is finished it will probably be a 2 and a half hour drive.
plus its pretty much a perfect family away for the weekend destination. the caravan park is right on the beach where you sail and its perfect for the kids to swim at. there are heaps of cheap holiday units too unless you go during the peak holiday periods. and it's pretty much paradise compared to wello, flat water no matter the tide, sandy beach with no rocks, coral or mud! kinda like burrum i suppose but closer, and with good surf if you are into that kinda thing
Yer I should do it for sure prob getting to the wrong time of year now.
I wouldnt mine going down for a week or so and yea take the Pure acid 80 down as well
Discussion at home last night
"dearest i think we should go for a holiday at Yamba"
"oh I love that spot"
"and I think i will too......"
Was in yamba last weekend. The locals reckon that 40kts has been seen behind the wall on a GPS.
Anyway, I tried to take a quick clip of some blasting behind the wall on monday, unfortunately its not very good cause i didn't close the camera in front of the air-con and it kept fogging every 5 minutes, plus sailing in a straight line for a long way ain't really a strong suite of mine. Its is probably 18kts behind the wall gusting easily to 20+ as my 5.9 was getting a overpowered in the gusts and i actually had a few sketchy moments despite the smooth water. Further towards the river mouth where u launch it was probably only 14kts, always seems to be about 5kts windier behind the wall. Tide was high so as you can see the waves spill over the wall in a few spots. But I think most of the bouncyness is because I didn't have the headstrap tightened up.
Anyway, enough talk, enjoy the vid. And just for reference on tuesday when I was overpowered on my 5.3 of pippi beach, the graphs were only showing just on 20kts, so I think the river there and the beach has a bit of a natural wind funnelling effect.
