hi guys, I'm curious to know my speed in windsurfing and kitesurfing. has anyone tried a GPS wrist watch like suunto Ambit..
Basically if I get max speed and average, plus rugged construction I'm happy
thanx

See previous thread on this: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Gps/GT-31-Alt-Is-the-Suunto-watch-any-good/
In short, No good, but has some potential.

Depends on how you look at it-do you want a device that will give you the approved data for use on one
Of the established kite/windsurfing gps sites?
If yes, then I don't know of a watch that is approved.
If no, then you can use what I have, which is a garmin quatix. This usually reads within .2 of a knot of what
My gt gives.i have it set (like my gt) to show just the max speed. I have no interest in on the water feed back
Of the averages etc, but I find the watch is far easier to view, especially while sailing.
It would be great to have a watch that records like the gt...I noticed locosys have developed a watch now but I don't know
Any of the tech details.

Thanx...I guess Garmin does the job, I've seen few sailers in elwood with it. I don't need to upload data to web sites so this watch should be OK. Only thing is Garmin watches are bigger than suunto so may not suit general wear off water. BTW : I have a $500 diving watch never used in diving.
thinking of getting this one, records a gpx file you can upload to Ka 72 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NAVIG8R-NAVWATCH-S10-GPS-Sports-Watch-Google-Map-Tracking-LASER-Fitness-Unisex-/360620785145?pt=AU_Watches&hash=item53f6ac7df9
on another website it said 1 sec interval recording, this one says 10 ....
Locosys really need to pull the their finger out and produce a new model GPS that has the accuracy of the GT-31 in a smaller fully waterproof package.
I asked locosys about the new watch they are developing
And this was the reply, promising I recon...
The GT-31 was planned phase out, because there are some key components inside of GT/BGT-31 were notified by suppliers for EOL. (Also including SiRF 3 chip set.)
However , the stock of GT-31 is enough.
Therefore, you still can order GT-31 from our agent and our agent will order from us.
The current GW-31 is for general hiking users.
We are still developing our successor for GT-31. If we are ready, the windsurfing group will know.
Last, the data output format of our GW-31 will be compatible with the original GT-31(SBP format) , but it's not ready.
