I'v just picked up a very cheap 2nd hand 05 F2 missile. I also had the option to get a 2nd hand iS50 for a bit more money. I made made the decision with my wallet & can't help but think I should have spent a few more bucks & gone with the iS50. Is the Missile (50.5cm x 228, 66lt) much easier to learn speed than the iS50 (46.5cm x 217cmm 54ltr)?
I'm still learning speed techniques and I'v only been using small slaloms for a year.
Will the wider Missile get going earlier than the iS50? The rear rails on the Missile look real thin compaired to the iS's chunky rear rails, I normally like thicker rear rails.
Any comments on both these boards would be good.
Thanks
P.S. I'm around 100kg
Both excellent boards, you can't go wrong, and at your weight and as a first board the missile which is slightly larger may suit you better?
I think you'll find the Missile a lot easier to get going whatever the conditions compared with the IS50. At your weight you'll find a 6.0 about the max size you'll want to run on the board until you are up to speed, so to speak.
As a owner of both a f2 xs missle (54l) and an isonic ss50(54) they are both very excellent boards.
I weigh in at 72kg dry, and can run 26cm fins and 6.7 rs racing on both no problems.
The small missle would be perfect for your weight .The pin tails allows better fin rail control and trim for the lighter rider ,as well as being able to drive the tail in at speed for the heavier people.
You should have no problem running up to 7.0m on the missle, just remember light back foot until up to speed.
Enjoy its a great board.
At your level of experience and weight I think you have made a good choice. The Older large Missile is not much smaller than many high wind slalom boards and is very easy to sail for a speed board. You will have the size to keep it on the water in stronger winds as well.
For it's size, the IS50 is very easy to start and sail but you would need a significant amount more wind for that board. Ultimately, the smaller iSonic 50 will be faster in epic speed conditions but most of the time you will get more use from the Missile.
Just a quicky to let you know that tried the Missile/F2006 5.8m/Falcon 28cm today in gusty 15 to 35k square winds at West Kirby. Your right about it feeling like a high wind slalom board. Easy to get going, smooth on chop, drives back up wind well and felt nice at speed. Really pleased with it. Only problem now is that it feels similair in size to me iS76, need to think if I get a smaller speed board or replace the Missile & iS76 with one of the forthcomming SB Speed W53??
Cheers again
