Nice one Sean sure brings back some memories.
Off topic but you wouldnt know a mate of mine Arnie,he left the Goldcoast for New Caledonia a few years back so he could sail more.
I stopped sailing prior to him leaving but am hooked again.Wouldnt mind a trip over in the future.
Cheers Hannu.
"Ten Cate feeling of freedom"
Not exactly the words I would choose to describe those old sails in that kind of wind.
Hi Hannu
yes Arnie is one my good mates at Anse Vata beach.
He's so funny with his water phobia, a real cat !!
Poor lad got his car stolen two weeks ago with all his fins in it and all his makita tools (he's a tradie now, think he used to be a truck driver on the goldie)
(car was a real wreck but a perfect windsurf car !!)
He definitely made the right choice as to sail more, he's at the beach every single day, wind or no wind!!
Great find Sean!! Priceless to see Hally in there, he made a lot of us some great custom slalom boards here in Sydney back in the late 80's and early 90's.
Cripes shows how far the equipment has improved! Did Jurgens board have any footstraps? I remember those chest harness's..
watched some old speed sailing videos last few nights and whow was it good to see.
Mate gave me a box of 25 old videos as I still have a great player that works.
Will move them all to the windshack at beachport for summer..might organize a movie night in Feb.
there is some cool tandem speed I'm sure Daffy will love.

Yeah a great find Sean.
I bought a board off John Hall when he used to be on the Northern Beaches of Sydney back in 1992 for a fair bit of money in those days. Had a Tuttle fin box and was epoxy construction. Went bloody fast but was a mongrel to gybe due to its sharp rails. Believe he is now living down the south coast of NSW.
20 years later I could not give the board away so after I took the straps off, it ended up in a skip bin. Sad...

If you can organise a sheet to be hung up I could bring down a data projector for a movie night. Also I could give you a couple of VCRs in case the one you have breaks down.

It should not be hard to find an old portable projection screen around somewhere. Every school and lots of community groups used to have one.
I have lots of DVD's of the various 'SpeedWeeks' and 'Speed Fortnights' at Sandy Point I could bring too.
Wind looks very square, so not the fastest conditions; even today in similar conditions at Portland, the fastest sailors would only be doing high 30's, maybe touching 40 kts. Looking at the kit in 1981, with triangular sails, massively overpowered and tri-fin board with no footstraps achieving 28mph (24.5 kts) is pretty impressive

Burn them onto a disc before the VCR chews them up
Then distribute at minimal cost
I worked at that time a 2m board for my son. The boom was 270 cm long. Sometimes we went from Ruhrgebiet (Oberhausen} 160km t0 Strand Horst.
When the school was done, for my son, 2 hours to Horst, some hours fun and in the darkness home. I am now 74 years, I work fins ,and the day is the most time to short. One weekend with Gabi and the next weekend for testing my fins. Of course in Strand Horst. Wolfgang
