I'm on my 13 months Unmotorised Australia Crossing adventure and in mid Jan would like to make windsurfing stage from Tuggerah to Macquarie Lake (The Entrance to Newcastle), probably around 3 days.
I have Starboard Allstar touring SUP board which can be converted to windsurf board.
I need to buy (or preferably borrow) not expensive and suitable for my trip and skills second hand mast, sail, boom, maybe mast base, harness etc. The problem is that last time I windsurf in 1999. I'm checking marketplace offers and getting confused, I have no idea about equipment compatibility, can't judge price for value, and not even sure what exactly I need. Just looking for someone who can guide/help me with the above.
Cheers, Michael
As I'm new here I can't add photos or links - details of my trip can be found on my website, YouTube or FB under googling Kozok Unmotorised Australia Crossing
You're on a great adventure and hope that local guys can help you, it should not be difficult to lend you what you need.
But what route are you planning to go? Do you want to go out in the ocean and into Swansea?
In summer the prevailing breezes are NE, so against your direction, you might have to wait for a southerly shift.
I live south of Sydney, near Jervis bay, let me know if you are coming this way.
Good luck !!
Thanks for responding.
im planning to take inland lake route, ending in Speers Point near Newcastle. I hope I'll be able to sail North on NE wind. Anyway my wife will be supporting crew in case I stuck (then walk/cycle in worst case)
I'll be cycling from Canberra to Sydney via Nowra
Take care
Hi Michael,
Sounds like a great adventure. You probably already know but there is a section of land between top of Lake Munmorah and bottom of Lake Macquarie. You would need to walk/cycle that part - here's some info on that path -

I've done some expeditions.
I have gear, and I might be able to be a support crew for you.... land gap ,,,, etc (Live at Gosford)
Maybe do some drone video too.

You might also do a SUP down winder from Terrigal to the Entrance in the ocean, in a suitable southerly with appropriate support watching out for you.
I'm concerned about your all-star sup becoming a windsurfer. It can be done... but not easy and I'm sure going upwind you will be better on a windsurfer . I can probably loan you something.

Aware of it, but thanks for pointing it out. My wife will transport my stuff over there. Cheers

Thank you Lyndon
Will contact you soon on your mobile You might be right that sup converted to windsurfing might not be best. Appreciate your help

The Kona Mahalo, is the blue board in the morton bay solo video. It basically a big wide Kona. Really stable for low exertion, especially down wind. Its also quite reasonable up wind. No weak sliding mast track to fail. due to the duck tail concept, no need to slide the mast back. This is the ideal expedition board in my view, and Im happy to loan it to you, after a quick familiarisation, providing you have some reasonable windsurfing skills. I just want to be sure you are 1) not going to die out in the middle of a very big lake, and 2) potentially hurt yourself and the gear if your skills are not up to the task. (we can practice together if you are agreeable)
With the rig, I will set you up with a variable downhaul and outhaul, which allows you to dump a lot of power while you are out there.
Im thinking and ezzy lion 7.5 m sail is really tough sail and will allow for a big NE day if it pops up.
If you are heavy and a good sailor maybe an 8.5 m lion.
I also have some hand held marine radios to keep everyone in touch. One for each of you and your wife. Set up is waterproof. Also some waterproof day bags for your stuff.
