Next weekend (March 1st & 2nd) is the final heat for the Series for 2013/14. The Series & the State Champions(due to a no result two weeks ago) will be decided on that wk end, so come on down & get amongst the action.

A close battle is looming across all three devisors, with all sailors in the Free Formula fleet up for a gong. Wayne Bowness, Rick Murray and Tibor Ferenczy will be locking swords for crucial points in the GM devision & Brett Morris and Byron Mcilveen will be battling it out in the open fleet for first place, both as NSW Series & State Formula Champion for 2013/14.

Prize giving for our winners and runners up will be presented at the conclusion of racing in the regatta room at Georges River Sailing Club on the Sunday. There are some great prizes on offer, vie the generous sponsorship of Windsurf n' Snow, as well as a week end away at Smiths Lake will up for grabs as a lucky door prize to all entrances in that final heat. Free drinks and nibbles will be served with family and friends encouraged and very welcome to attend.

A reminder that as per the Series NOR, in order to keep your Series heat regatta drop, attendance at the last heat (Heat #6) is required.

Skippers meeting/briefing at GRSC for heat 6 will be at the club on Saturday from 10.30, racing not before 11am.

Hi all,

Based on the dismal wind forecast for this wk end and in the interest of getting a result for the final heat of the Series, we've decided to postpone the scheduled Heat 6 event at GRSC this coming wk end.

Working on another date with GRSC as I type, (most likely next wk end, the 8th & 9th of March) but will post confirmation of that date ASAP.

Just to repeat, NSW Windsurfing Series HEAT 6 POSTPONED FOR THIS WK END(1st & 2nd of March). Stay tuned for rescheduled event date.

What do l say?...l booked an operation for the 4-th by which date l thought that l would have finished the summer series. I imagine that is what Wayne had in mind as well?! I won't be able to sail for at least a month or more after next tuesday!

I'm really sorry gents, I don't think we can push the regatta out for another month though? This wk end is obviously a no go wind wise and the next (wk end)seems to be the best option we have at this stage? I'll come back to you both if we have another option.

This is an observation as I'm not part of the committee anymore. This is not an easy situation for the race committee. None of the choices are going to be ideal for everyone.

1. Sit on the beach for weekend waiting for wind - maybe no one gets to sail, fair to the competitors for series points.
2. Cancel the last event - definitely no one gets to sail, fair to the competitors for series points
3. Postpone to a later date - doesn't suit everyone, unfair for those who medical.y can't sail.

If the event is postponed perhaps those that can't sail for medical reasons can get average points

Yes, it is not easy to make decisions involving the weather. I am glad it is not me who has to and l did not expect any preferential treatment just put it down to bad luck from my part.It is interesting how it has openened a can of worms though. Perhaps waiting till this afternoon for the final decision would have been a bit safer?? At the moment l have seen worse forecast in my life than: Saturday 1 March

WindsEast to southeasterly about 10 knots becoming northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon.

Ricardo, surely you too need an operation, maybe some plastic surgery, a bit of open heart work, new toes? At this rate I could be the GM champ.

Just confirming, resceduling of the regatta(heat 6) has now been confirmed and will run this wk end (the 8th & 9th of March). Apologies to those not able to make it for this date. You will however get to drop your worst heat for the series, as there is no requirement to attend and not receive your heat discard. (this amends Rule 15.5 of the NSW Windsurfing Series Sailing Instructions)

A reminder about the NSW Windsurfing Series round up this wk end. Briefing at GRSC 10.30 this Saturday. As Glen mentions in his post, Raceboards will be joining us, so should potentially provide a decent spectacle for those thinking about coming along to watch?

Prize giving for both the NSW Series & State Champion on the Sunday, at the conclusion of racing, in the Regatta room at GRSC also.

Drinks provided so come on down as the more the merrier? Look forward to seeing everyone if they're able to make it

A great season wrap up was had this past wk end with the wind playing ball and a light NEster allowing us to get away 8 great races over the 2 days. (4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday). Our seasoned pro RO Andrew McLachlan from GRSC, was able to set us and the Raceboards an excellent course right in front of the club and this provided an excellent spetical for those watching on shore, as well testing the abilities of us windsurfers in more ways than one. Wind shifts, tide and other boats all played a part in providing, as Brett Morris described, “many passing lanes” but all agreed it was a fantastic strip for racing.

And on that note, a very big congratulations must go a deserved champion Brett Morris who set an extremely high standard of Formula Windsurf racing this year, leading the way throughout the season and taking out the honour of this years combined NSW State Champion & NSW Windsurfing Series Champion. A close contest was had amongst many of the top guys, but constancy of form across a wide range of conditions this season, brought in Byron Mcilveen and Chris Ting as our very worthy 2nd and 3rd places. Big congratulations must also go to Wayne Bowness, our campion Grand Master with Rick Murry & Tibor Ferenczy coming in respective 2nd and 3rd places. These guys continue to show up many of us slightly younger guys in the fleet, in more ways than one! Well done also to Barry Fawkes for etching his name yet again, on the Free Formula trophy and congrates to new comer Tom Burke & old hand James Farley for coming in 2nd and 3rd places in the one lap devision.

A very big thank you to Windsurf n Snow for the donation of generous prizes and continued support of the NSW Windsurfing Series, we recognise that it couldn’t exist without your sponsorship and this is very much appreciated by us all. Thank you also to all those competitors who traveled to make the regatta a great success this wk end. Thanks to the race committee this wk end, Dave Howe, Rick, Byron & Glen Morrell. Great working with and very much looking forward to catching up with you guys and everyone else, next season for a revamped and very big NSW Windsurfing Series 2014/15.

Great series guys. Thanks for all your work Adam. Georges River is a good place to race, not least because it has the best cafes & showers and a short gear carry to the water. These things are important for oldies. I liked sailing in the bay in front of the club, the tide makes it interesting & the waves from the cabin cruisers helps me perfect my wave riding skills.
