I'll be out there this arvo for sure!
BenKirk, I'm selling my '83 Mistral Competition if that's of interest to you? Can come with rig or without. It's a surprisingly good board I have to say!
I have a 5 year old Wally , board and rig, for sale and Connor from St George sailing Club has a Pan Am for sale
Well the breeze certainly died and died..... I did spot the Wally out there as I was rigging but by the time I got out he was gone. Ah well, solo windsurfing again.
Actually, I had a blast! I logged the sail on the gps which clearly showed how much time I spent up around 10 knots boatspeed. Nothing to complain about there.
The Wally was me, was on the water from 3.30 to 5.30. Got some nice wind NE of the Island . Got about half way up to Palm Beach and then a nice square run and a few broad reaches back to the club
Cool, don't think we've met yet Jorn ...? Hopefully see you out there another time. I'm easy to spot as I'm on the D2 board.
Cheers, Mikey
No I don't think we met. Will be back in Bayview on Tuesday and try to go out again. Maybe I will meet you then??
Tuesday sounds good. I'll make myself a reminder. Current forecast is 15 knots NE. (not that I really care much what the wind is...)
Saltyheaven,
Attempted to steer the yacht over to check out your D2 late yesterday evening - but you were on your way back to vicinity Avalon SC. I intend to be out there Tuesday arvo/ evening - heading out from Salt Pan. Jorn - hope to see you on your Phantom 377. All welcome. Any longboard sailboarders - the more the merrier.
Will try depends on work. The blue beast will be on board , Will update my time when I get on the water, depending on work, on Tuesday. looking forward seeing you guys
Tuesday it is ! Yeah I snuck out for a quick hour at the end of yesterday, it must have been late if I was headed in.
So looks like there's a chance for three of us on the water, that would be fun. I'm really enjoying the last of the day sails lately so will aim to hit the water 5 ish, and plan to stay out until the sun sets.
Anyone else fancy coming along?
Fizzer. Nevermind. Thanks Jorn and Steve for coming out despite the wind that didn't. Jorn you were probably wise to get south again while you could!
I sailed for another hour or so but stayed close to home just in case, and I had a really magical time. The wind was coming through in little puffs under the hill, just strong enough to pop the board up on the rail and slide along as if on rails. Smooth.
Well maybe next time. Went out at 2.00 on the blue beast and a very bagged out 9.5 Barracouta sail. Had a few puffs to rail the board and made it as far as Palm Beach or just before, turned around as a seaplane tried to land on me.A magic location to sail and friendly locals. As I got in I met another Steve and his partner Nicole. They could be local sailing buddies for Mikey, just get in touch with each other. Ciao till next time Jorn
SO....
Through intensely good fortune and karma I've become the owner of a Lechner a390. It is the board I've been dreaming of, I figured I was going to have to make one to the lines one day.
I was wanting a D2 board that was just a bit more optimised for higher winds and chop than the DB2 that I've been riding, The Lechner certainly is an improvement in this regard. It's not night and day and the DB2 is still a damn fine board, it does some things better than the Lechner and is a sweet sweet ride.
Alas I have room in my life for just one board. The DB2 needs a new home. I'm putting this quietly in the Pittwater thread first for entirely selfish reasons - ie: I would love another D2 board to sail with me from time to time.
Anyone local keen to take on the DB2? PM me or better yet, send me an email: saltyheaven7@gmail.com
The fine print:
- It leaks a bit. Sometimes not much, sometimes a fair bit. I think it's coming in around the join between the dagger case and the deck, this will probably need a repair at some stage which I'm happy to help with locally. (Mind you, I usually sail for about 4 hours so for shorter sails this may not be a problem.)
- It needs a fin. The Lechner came without a fin and I was coincidentally using an a390 fin on the DB2. Simple US box fin, no big deal.
Other than that all is good. It takes a standard screw in mast base. The track works well, it comes with the custom dagger board that I made for it.
- There's a bit more info and a few pictures of the work I did when I got the board here: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/General/Division-2-board/?page=1 The board came from Chris Lawrence the Olympic sailor.
Cheers, Mikey
Cranking southerly today! Just me and the yachts.
Anyhow, with no responses regarding the DB2 I'll be putting it out to the greater world in short time...
Last chance.... Anyone?
This arvo anyone long boarding in Pittwater?
I'll be out from 2:30 ish. Forecast is 15 knots which is pretty much perfect for my gear.
Slight hijacking of the topic, but I had a slight mishap yesterday - managed to snap and lose the dagger board of my Mistral OD whilst powering upwind. I'm guessing old age/fatigue as I certainly didn't hit anything.
Does anyone happen to have one available or know of somewhere I can get hold of one? Will be trying WSnS shortly!
Rick / AUS4 may have something to suit

Salty,
I'm hoping to have the Phantom380+8.5RSXrig out on the water tomorrow Friday 19 Feb from 2pm-ish.
Hoping that I'll be comfortable enough to also attempt Saturday in the forecast 15 to 20kn+
I'm keen that others might join in also, eg:
Curly Karen; Birdy Barton; Avo Arnie etc etc. ALL WELCOME
Sounds good Steve, I'll be on the water tomorrow for sure. Although I'll be heading out more like 4ish 5ish and sailing until the light fades.
Three! There were three of us, yay! But you disappeared so soon Arnie : (
Anyhow, Steve was out on his brand new secondhand Phantom and RSX 8.5, first sail and looking great!
Arnie on the RSD2 and Severn 9.5
and Mikey on the Lechner and Barracouta 8.4
Also cheering from the wings was Steve Barton at the helm of 'Big Bird' no doubt wishing he'd chosen to windsurf instead ; ) Next time eh Steve?.
Now this is starting to look like the beginnings of a decent fleet I say.....................
The forecast 15+ really didn't materialise which left us with ummmm oh maybe 12 gusting 14knots and then easing, but a bit choppy for the wind strength because of the twilight fleet criss crossing back and forth. I know I stopped and let out a few cm's of downhaul when it became obvious the wind just wasn't going to happen as advertised. It always blows me away how much difference it makes.
It's going to be properly windy tomorrow, straight Southerly - I'll be out at the end of the day again, 4-5ish until sunset.
This arvo, Tues, Wed arvo looking good for a long work up to WestHd and return to TaylorsPt etc. I will probably do Tuesday arvo. Haven't had the Phantom380 in a good fresh breeze yet. Anyone else?
I'm in for sure. Can't go Tuesday though. This evening and Wednesday I'll be out rocking the lechner/Barracouta combo.
I'm too am waiting for a good solid 25 to see how I go with the 8.4. I've had it in 20 gusting 25 no worries, so solid 25 gusting more is the next step.
Well that was fun!
Just Arnie and myself on a jaunt to Currawong Beach and back. 15 knots (ish) of breeze. Something like that, maybe not quite that much.
I wasn't on the Lechner after all - there's an old Formula board in the boatshed that I get to keep my gear in that never sees any use so I thought I'd take it for a spin. (er... with the 8.4 racesail!?!) I took the gps and so can reliably say that I covered 45 km's in the meanderings and zigs and zags. That weird thing sure gets along just fine! I daresay I'll give it a run again but don't worry - I Love my Lechner.
Hoping for say 13-18kn this arvo.
Come one, come all. Chase me down and provide as much advice /tuning tips as you might like to offer.
Salty, can you provide some advice on that phone ap sometime?
