Kudos & respect to the foil competitors who raced today. The Technos went to the start line but were sent home by the RO. No other classes sailed today including lasers & the allegedly tough finns. Great to see competitors from many states.
Oh wow Grae has been de-throned, had to happen eventually I guess, Nice work Will!
Cheers for the coverage, couldn't get time off work unfortunately.
6 races today for the Windfoilers and 4 for the Technos. SE wind 6-18kn a bit shifty at Balmoral. Great to watch.
Is that a tandem?
Port starts banned in all foil races or just this one ?
It depends on the series, we allow it in the NSW series now but i've still never seen anyone attempt one yet, you'd be game. They also allowed it at the formula foil worlds. To pull one off unless the line is way Port biased, which is rare, you're going to have to cross behind the whole fleet so unless there is way more wind on the right of the course your giving up a lot of ground straight away. It is super rare in any class that someone pulls off a port flyer and wins a race, the risk/reward ratio is not great.

Why ban it then ?
The six races were back to back which made sense given Balmoral SC is hard to get back to in a SE. Great photos from Richie. Last day today.
The iqfoil setup seems to be settled. It's up to the pilot to get it fastest around the course. Downwind speeds of the leaders were around 25kn. Today's track west of Grotto point had lots of chop, large waves, plenty of traffic & 12 to 20kn of breeze. The skill level in these challenging conditions was amazing. Congratulations to foil winners, Grae Morris & Sam Costin. Apologies for not having photos of the Techno winners.
I'm so sore from trying to keep up with the kids. Onward & upward.
