Has anyone got any feedback on how the Lake Users meeting went with the NCA?
For those not local, the National Capital Authority has approved a limited number of seaplane flights per day. They are flights to/from Sydney and the South Coast. The issue for the meeting was safety protocols. The outcome to be put to the public early next year.
The language used by NCA suggests the focus is on those who like to watch (rather than do) what is happening around the lake precinct. Well I suppose they have interests as much as do the user clubs. On a personal note I like to WS in quieter locations.
So it is going to happen, and the devil is in the detail. That is all I can deduce from public statements by NCA.
We have a seaplane that's been running over the past 12 months or so here on Lake Macquarie. They only fly when its calm, so there's not really been any clashes with the windsurfers.
Interesting real world observation. Thanks. I read somewhere that a small seaplane on take off (when it gets over the 'hump') might be doing 27 knots. Not much different to a foil board going flat out, but in windy conditions. Closing speeds of foils must be like very fast. As one response (found on the internet) to the NCA survey noted, foiling requires a lot of concentration.
