Looks like a decent forecast for the next week - any good options in the South West Rocks/Trial Bay area for some freeride blasting or non life threatening wave sailing? Family trip up that way tomorrow and just wondering whether to sneak some windsurfing kit into the car as well! Cheers breezers!

pretty sure it's mostly offshore for the bay area . PhilSWR found some flat water water spots up the river , maybe try and contact him on here ?

Sorry I missed this. There are ZERO southerly spots in SWR. Too much protection from Smoky and the big headlands to the south. Closest spots are 40 min drive to the north or south.

Thanks for the replies - you were right! Didn't manage to get any windsurfing in but had some great SUP surfing which made up for it!
Out of interest, Needsalt, where are the windsurfing spots worth checking out nearby further up or down the coast? It's an awesome place and I'm sure I'll be back

The gaol is fun in a westerly, but we haven't had many the last few years. Fingers crossed that changes with the back of La Nina. It should get better in a NE if the sand keeps building up too. We usually have a few short bump and jump river runs in a NE, but they've been killed by thigh deep post bushfire ooze, flood water and the odd dead cow in the last few years. Still waiting for them to clean up.

We have pretty much zero decent flat for miles. Queens Lake near Laurieton is okay in a SW, SE or NE, but not S and generally lighter and gustier than elsewhere. Then pretty much Forster or the Central Coast to the south. To the north, realistically Yamba for NE but not S, the Goldy or the Sunshine Coast.

Plenty more closer options for waves. Valla, Coffs or Flat Top at Woolgoolga to the north. Delicate south of Crescent or Middle Rock near Lake Cathie to the south.

It feels like a bit of a windsurfing black hole compared to other areas. I've spent many years poring over Google Earth and crying in ripping southerlies. I'm stuck here for family and certainly don't stay for the sailing
