I'll be visiting the Illawarra from 15-27 October and am wondering what gear to bring. I'll bring a 125lt windfoil board, which I'm still getting the hang of, and a 95lt wave board (for when it's over 22 knots). I'll need to be on the lake most of the time because of the slow progress I'm making with the foil. What wind range is normal and what wetsuits should I bring. (I'm still using a 5mm wettie in Adelaide but assume I might not need that in Wollongong. P.S. I'm in my seventies, so am not as athletic as I was.

You'll most likely see a range of wind conditions, some rainy weather still about plus hopefully sunny days, light to medium strength breeze, your foil gear plus 95l board should cover it, bring a shallow weed fin if you have one, launching from the eastern side of lake at primbee is shallow water, the western side at Kanahooka (koonawarra sailing club) is deeper and better for the foil. Wetsuits, still a bit cool atm, a 3/2 steamer but hopefully things warm up and a shortie might be good.

worth visiting St. George's basin:
- launch from Sanctuary Point boat ramp with a weed fin for the wave board in NE or S winds
- launch from Kingfisher reserve in St.George's basin for windfoiling in NE - E - S - SW winds

have a great trip

Thank you, Gentlemen. I plan to come past Jervis Bay on my way there, so shall check it out. Kingfisher Reserve appears to be at end of Island Pt Road. Is that correct? It all sounds good though! I hope to meet you guys at one spot or another.

yes it is there, don't try to sail from one side of the islands to the other, it is too shallow for foiling. Send a message when you are around. Cannot guarantee I will be around due to babysitting duties, but there might be others.

have a look at the tracks of my sessions:

Thanks Powersloshin. I didn't get a chance to go to St Georges Basin, but great to see where you sail on the different wind directions. I might just get a chance for one more (i.e. third) session at Kanahooka tomorrow before I go. I imagine the shelter to the west of the lake would be problematic at Kana. Are there any good spots for foiling on the Lake in a westerly?

if you have a weed fin go to primbee for a speed session today, wind will be too strong and patchy for foiling
