From the UK, Just moved to Sydney, living inner west. Im happy to travel to get a good session in! Happy to sail in Waves, Bump and Jump and flat. Just want to get on the water as much as I can! got a 90L wave board and a 3.7, 4.5, 5.0. All advice and tips much appreciated. Have read up a bit to see whats good. Is anywhere good on a westerly/southwesterly??? Thanks, let you know if you are going for a sesh!!!
One option could be Wanda beach cronulla in north or north easterly breeze for some surf stuff - however generally our summer seabreeze .
Next week starting Monday it will be westerly, with your gear you can try from Kurnell (W) or La Perouse (W and SW) or if you want to drive less go to St.George's river near the skiff club.
When it's very windy we go to Primbee or Budgewoi for flat - shallow water speed, but you need high rake weed fins
Gerroa is very sailable in a strong Westerly if you'd rather a few waves plus has the added safety of a headland preventing you heading to NZ. Port Kembla another option but not done it myself yet.
Westerlies anywhere around here are generally pretty gusty unfortunately but at least you get wet.
Usually only 1 or 2 of us out in the waves as it seems most are spoilt by the summers and don't like gusty conditions/opposite tack.
If the wind goes SW rather than WSW it stops blowing to the South of Saddleback mountain. Lots of little local effects to take into consideration but if you have any questions drop me a message as I'm usually grateful for someone to sail with over winter. In Summer you can stay at Wanda though
Birubi beach and Nelsons bay area is without doubt the best winter spot on the east coast if your keen to travel north.

So how have you been going the last few days? England temperature and just about windy enough for a 3.7.
Hmmm, I'm surprised that Long Reef hasn't scored a mention. The beach faces directly southeast, so winter sou'westers are perfectly side-shore. WSW winds are also good. And of course nor'easters in summer. When the southerly swells swing towards the beach over the bombora reef (approx 0.5k offshore) it can provide awesome wavesailing. However in strong south to sou'east winds it can also get very gnarly.
