a dedicated complaints hotline on 13 12 36
Hi
I have read the article and it is from 2015, and information compiled then to be used as part or the marine safety legislation reforms in 2016.
I'm not sure if i have noticed any reform on Botany Bay in fact have seen increase of users and advertising banners encouraging people to hire jet skis on Botany Bay, madness to think this is a good idea.
Spoke to water police last week and raised my concerns but as i suspected, they are doing there job, there comment was we are patrolling waterways and showing presents over peak times.
One item I was confused about was we have yellow buoys placed 50m or so off the beach and was under the impression this indicated once inside these buoys it is a 4 or 8 knot speed to beach or off beach well it is not, what it indicates according to the water police it says you are to proceed only in a straight line to and from beach no donuts but still at speeds though. So the rulings are still very watered down rules and dangerous.
I know we do not want to became a rules and restrictions state and jet ski uses should feel able to use the waterways as we all are but for safety and cohesion for all I think rules need to be there. the bay is big so it can accommodate all users.
Hope water police anchor along the foreshore to encourage safety and if you feel intimidated in any way do call 13 12 36 and let your concerned be heard.
Kind Regards
Walt
