Hi all,
I'm considering buying a carbon boom 140-190 cm. for. The sails I use I will need 185 cm max size so this size boom will extend by 45cm which close to the maximum. Is it wise to use a carbon boom with fully extended or should I buy 160-210 boom instead ( in this case I will need two booms to cover the smallest sail which has 155cm boom)
basically i I want to know if anyone has had negative experiences after max extending carbon booms
cheers
sonny
My 170-230 MS Carbon has huge flex at 222 with a race sail. Not very assuring. Especially as it is a replacement extension. The first snapped in a crash.

I guess it's pretty hard to find good slalom booms unless you spend lot of $$$
they wouldn't make them like that if you couldn't use the full extension..plus if it broke you can imagine all the warranty claims.the answer is yes
Sonny yes you can, but if covering the range of 150 - 185 why not go a 150-200cm boom?I have done just that recently as my smallest is 4.2 (154cm) and largest 6.2 (188cm). There was too much flex at 188cm on a boom that only went to 190.
I have noticed the decreased flex on my mid sized sails, so there is no downside...
I think it's a good idea .. Only some manufacturers have this range 150-200
al360 have a 150-210 range...
