I have been using Flying Objects fixed lines for a while and the latest ones last really well.
I had a boom that I was looking to regrip and decided to give them a try once I had finished so bought a pair.
The first point of difference is that they come in a range of bright colours and I went with blue to match my 2015 Loft Switchblade and Mistral SL91.
They have attracted quite a lot of attention on the beach as they do look different.
They come with one spare clip and go on the boom very quickly without having to remove the end.
This was how I set them up to start with as I wanted a particular length.
However you need to install then so that there is a ridge on the outside of the back of the clip. They can slip under load if you don't.
The picture below shows the lines rotated so that you can see the back. Because of the size of my boom (old school size grip rather than the newer skinnies) I had to set the ends uneven to get the length I required and get the ridges in the right place.
So from what I can tell they are not infinitely variable as you need the external large ridge at the back of the clip which gives 1 inch intervals if you offset them.
As they do not increasingly tighten under load they are easily moved and hang nicely.
You have to make sure you store them flat otherwise they can bend and can take a while to bend back which can make hooking in a trial.
So I have now used them for a couple of sessions and all good. It will be interesting to see how durable they are as I give my gear a good workout!
I found they would start to snap on me. At least they only snapped half way so you had enough to get back to shore. So I went back to using standard lines as they seemed to me to last a bit longer.
I've been using them since May - orange ones to match my KA Race sails.
Pros:
- they look good
- they are light
- they are stiff and stay in position
- there is less tendency to accidentally hook up in the middle of a gybe
- No apparent wear and tear to dtae
- they are adjustable in 1 inch increments
Cons
- none to date
Been done before
seach the web, not so good.

Sold quiet a few sets and everyone loves them , i have used mine and found them really nice to use and easy to adjust if you need to
I tried them when they first came out and without trying to be rude they were s..t on a stick, slipped and then broke. I liked the basic design and it appeared to me that the problem was perhaps due to them using the wrong material in the clip, it needed to be an engineering grade plastic and not some polycrapolyne. However being a lunatic that is always willing to try something new I would be willing to give them another shot if the slipping and durability issues have been solved.
Have they really???????
If they are set up as described by Lao Shi with the ridge behind the plastic clip, then they are fully secure and don't slip
I've used them for a couple of seasons now and I like them. I find they are less prone moving on the boom than Velcro on ones. No slipping or breakages and the only downside so far is they have a tendency to mark the boom grip
