From an Ezzy Taka2 Customer, test sail at Margaret River Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 March 2015

"The new Ezzy Taka2 look the goods. 1st impression is how light they are. Then on taking off in the keyhole, how much torque the 5.0 delivers, grunting out like through the drifty rip at the base of the Margaret River wave as well the old Elite 5.3 (4 batten).

The 1st gybe underlines how light the sail is in a transition. This feeling repeats on the wave, moving from the bottom turn back up the face. Definitely lighter-easier to go vertical, and so you find yourself more inside the power pocket. Combined with the gripiness of the quad, the Taka2 looks to have the potential to change how you ride waves-if you let it, and learn what it can do.

Winds were particularly gusty this afternoon at Margaret River, varying from gutless to fairly full on, and so tuning the outhaul paid off. Even 1 cm adjustments have big effects on torque and handling, and were very worthwhile.

The following day was a bigger test of the Taka 2. Much stronger, very gusty cross-off winds varying from 18-28 knots. Swell had jumped, and 1.5 mast high sets were common. The 5.0 at max outhaul coped with the conditions beautifully; floating me through the lulls, but also handling the incredible apparent wind that such large swells generate in cross-off conditions.

Of course my thoughts were focused on sailing that day, rather than sail reviewing, but I can certainly conclude that the Taka 2/Goya quad combination did not let me down, both in coping with the power when wind and wave coincided, and letting me play freely on the big ones when the gusts retreated, offering up a glassy wall to slash. Highly recommended."
