I have a severne mach 2 7.8m rigged on a 460 SDM blueline 90% carbon mast. I have taken all the spacers from the cams but it still doesn't rotate very well. The correct mast for this sail is the Apex.460 which is slightly smaller diameter. Has anyone previously, or should I file the ends of the cambers to help it rotate.
As far as rigging goes I've compared it to a friend's same sail rigged on the correct apex mast and they look almost identical.
Or should I bite the bullet and just try and source the correct 460 Apex mast. Anyone selling let me know please.
If the cam roller are pressing on the mast then no point filing the cam. My 7.8 takes more effort than my 8.6 and 9.4 to rotate. It's better when wet but still takes a good pump to rotate unless really windy.
What also happens sometimes is the pins which hold the rollers on work there way out, doesn't work very then
suggestion: borrow your mate's Apex mast and rig your sail on it for comparison.
also, like Ben1973 noted, check whether the it is the cam rollers or the "arms" of the cam that are making contact with the mast (may need to sneak a cell phone in there and take pictures). the critical cams will be #2 and #3 (counting down).
Hi
I have exactly the same. In the beginning my downhaul was not enough wich made rotation a pain. I now downhaul really all the way, floppy leach and rotation is way better. Do need a pump but not a push with my foot as per beginning.
Regards
Lard
I have a Mach 2 7m and rig it up with a 100 percent RRD Firewig 460 mast and the rotation is like a wave sail.
Had problems rotating the Mach 1 7m using the same mast. ok rotation but not great.
Might need to try a different mast.

Yeap my m2 7m rotates really well on the apex mast. But still looking for cheap 2nd hand 460m. I can't justify $1000 plus for a new one just for better rotation. A different cam would have be much cheaper than a whole new mast. The apex are thinner MDM. But good rotation.
FYI, I had 1a 7.8 M1 rigged on a Blueline and it was fine....rotated beautifully. I upgrade to an Apex which was also good, but the Blueline actually let the sail rotate slightly better....go figure! At the moment I use the Apex on my 7.8 M3 and it's also great. Severne sails generally need to have Severne masts to get the best out of them

I have a friend that had the same problem with mach 2, 3 and 4 and he only fixed it when he bought the new masts because the diameter is much smaller than the bluelines.
I use Severne Overdrive and also had the same problem and i had to buy the new ARCs, 75% C, so the cams could rotate well.
Severne changed a lot the diameter from the bluelines to the new masts so we have to change masts :(
I just used my Mach 2 8.6 on a Blueline mast on Sunday, rotation was sweet.
I think its the luck of the draw, my Mach 1 7.8 rotates well on the old mast, Mach 3 doesn't.
As the newer sails are designed for the Apex mast, this is really the only way to guarantee seamless rotation.
I posted here how to modify the severne cams here

The Apex masks are 6mm narrower at some points. I will keep some of my modified cams even if get some new masts as will keep the old masts as spares.
