Hi,

I recently rigged a 2022 NP Combat 4.5 on a TPX100 370 RDM Mast from 2022 and it had a beautiful profile for a small sail (and sailed really well too, lot's of grunt but will depowered when it needs to be). This new Combat has a 'relatively' deep tummy compared to my older 2017 Combat 4.0 which I rigged on an older (2014) X65 340 RDM Mast and which always rigs quite 'flat'.

So I was perusing the Unifiber page and the Neil Pryde Web Pages for Mast information and (see pics below). It seems that (using Unifiber data only) NP was "Flex Top" (FT) for both RDM and SDM from 2011 through 2014 Charts (2011/2012/2013/2014), after which in 2017 there was a minor shift towards Constant Curve (CC), but still denoted FT, for RDM only. This continued for the 2019 Chart.

Unifiber changed their chart in 2023 to a different system, but it shows that at the 2015/2016 boundary it moved to CC (which frustratingly isn't actually consistent with Unifiber's own 2017 and 2019 Charts).

The 2017 Combat 4.0 which rigs on a 340 or 370 mast (so yeah I could try on the new mast) but as I also have a newer Combat 4.0, which ONLY rigs on a 340, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with rigging a post 2016 or 2017 Combat on an older X65 Mast vs a newer TPX90 or TPX100 340 RDM mast and if there was any appreciable difference?

I appreciate this might simply be down to cut of the sail, but if anyone who knows / has had / rigs these sails regularly and has a good eye for them could put their 2cents in, that'd be great and much appreciated.

Cheers

k.

The NP have always been known as at the flex-top end of bend curves, as this pre-2014 collection of data gives.
www.peterman.dk/masts-all-imcs01.htm
Shorter masts have always been FT.
I dont know how long after 2014 the longer masts have been CC, and the Unifiber doesnt really help with the differences between 340 & 490 masts.

MAST CURVES 0-6 = Hard top 7-9 = Hard Top/Constant Curve 10-12 = Constant Curve 13-15 =Constant Curve/Flex top 16-18 = Flex Top19-21 = Flex Top/Super Flex Top 22+ = Super Flex Top

It keeps us entertained! Can you reduce downhaul to keep pocket or is it top heavy?

Cheers for that Phil, I had a dekko at the Peterman site and have known about it for a while, but I think he mainly focused on longer masts and the NP list seems to have no mast newer than 2013, so cannot compare. There's only one X65 (X 65) tested , an RDM 400. Most of the others seem to be the older X3, X6, X9 series.

This is the IMCS from NP TPX100 masts (but not bend curves, can't find much on those).

I'm probably not going to get much real world feedback on this, small data set especially these days, so maybe will try my TPX100 370 in the older 4.0 to see if that looks and more importantly behaves any better, and if so rethink getting a newer TPX100 340 to replace the X65 340.

Haha, true. Never ending discussion this one. how many times does it get asked, must be the most roll-eyes topic on sea breeze...

DH, yeah can do, actually mostly used by my wife for free foiling, just nice to have a bit of a tum when it's marginal. My son (85kg) did use it windsurfing the other day when some good but very gusty wind came through, there we like a decent DH for control.
