how much of a difference b/w the years ? I assume performance is the same....just construction ? (and color )...is it worth a few bucks $$$ more for a 22 vs 21 ? or 20?

My 2cents , 2021 and 2022 a step on probably , reduced window - lighter weight panels to lower down , and reduced xply window (heavier material than further up) .... all adds up to less swing weight above 2nd batten ... When I was using the 2020 and before - was always thinking that window should stop at the 2nd batten to save weight om xply (like the pro mebranes always have ) - and use that lighter material further down the sail - then 2021 severne changed that on the standard models ...

There's small improvements year on year , I thought my s1 4.4 from 2019 was best / fave sail ever , then jumped on the 2021 - s1 , another jump in peformance ( better rig range , felt better rigged with min downhaul than previous years , an even lighter feel in general etc) , and now 2021 S1 feel amazing (I would say I like them more than my 2015 membrane pro s1's / the 1st membranes )

Go for the 2021 onwards ..... (unless big price difference for 2020 or pre - then go with them) btw - Ive still got a 2016 blade , 2017 , 2019 in the quiver - they are all still really good performers ....

Total agree with you. I test my new Blade pro 2022 5.0 in all conditions superb performance in Garda Lake but where this sails surprised me was some week ago in Oneye and Manawa mode light wind, and small wave. The new Blade pro is better in wave riding is a little bit more light in the hands, the cut back is better I felt more soft and twist compare to my old model 2017 and also my 4.2 Blade pro 2020.
This year in Mauritius I did not find much wind and this sail saved my holiday and allowed me to have fun and take a lot of waves.
Of course I prefer to surf with my S1 pro 4.4 2019 but it wasn't always possible given the particularly light and treacherous wind conditions from the east. Considering my weight of 73 kg I always went out even in very light wind with the sail pulled to the maximum and with two pump strokes I dislocated well smoking my friends on the line up, certainly once inside these very fast vertical walls of Oneye I did not have the freedom to movement of my S1 pro 4.4 but I had a lot of fun and when Oneye's wave closed in front of me I always had enough power to go out or throw myself into the reef avoiding the worst. However, I felt a great responsibility not to destroy this beautiful sail.

When I go out to Lake Garda as I use a completely different trim, I leave the outhaul very soft, working a lot on the downhaul depending on the wind. Practically no outhaul (negative) and I play only with downhaul.

Here my girlfriend with Blade pro 5.0 2022 first jibe
