A tough predicament.
Im going to buy a new sail. Bam!
Im tossing up between the 5.6 s1 pro and 5.7 blade pro.
How much more wind range does the blade have over the s1. I know in older models it was huge. But in the pros, is it a big difference?
I am buying a 100% 400 carbon mast for my s1 pro 4.8m. I can use this on the 5.6 s1. Big advantage. If I get the blade it's going to be run on a gorilla mast.
Based on no knowledge of your equipment, skills, sailing locations etc.
I would go the S1 pro for the simple reason its nice to have the same sail type in different sizes, keeps the same 'feel' as you switch up and down. And if it rigs on the 400 then its a bonus.
S1 no brainer !!!! - will feel waaaaay better than the pro blade / gorilla combo (430?) .... if you had a 430/100% , then there might be an argument (better bottom end maybe with longer stiffer mast ) , then you are adding on extra sail weight 3-400 grms , and lots extra mast weight (100% 430 vs 400 ) which would probably negate any earlier planing , as it is you look to save sail wgt 300 grasms + 500 grams on the mast (400/100 vs 430/75) .... you can get away with 28 ext on the S1 for a tightish leech and more grunt , but the sail 'sails' lighter with 30 ext and nice loose leech .... If it was a big 'mast breaking' lightwind day you maybe can rig the S1 on gorilla with 0 ext .... ?
I have a 2015 S1 5.6 as well as 5.3 Blade Pro. I would say go the S1 for a couple of reasons. You won't be using the 5.6 in super windy conditions and the ultra light weight is just awesome when you are trying to make it out past the break in next to no wind. Also, having only one mast for two sails means less crap to take on planes, into the car, etc.
