Any opinions on the strongest tendon joint base plate?
Have tried the Severne plate, and broken a couple of tendons in a little over a year (the clear 'white' ones)
And the simmer plate, and the plastic cup holding the tendon cracked, also the tendons themselves look very poor quality and have stretch marks.
Is there anything stronger out there? That tolerates the cold.
Chinook? Duotone?
Cheers
Use one of these, its a mechanical UJ far less effected by the cold. Doesn't bend, more link a hinge.
These are pretty indestructible, single bolt or two bolt connection.
Just replace the tendon annually with a genuine Chinook one to be safe.
Duotone tendons last longer than Chinook. Only 2 brands I've used.
Mine definitely did not. Duotone clear fell apart in 6 months and no replacement available.

Owned mine for 5 years. I also replace the tendon each season. It's a great product.

After having an Aeron base fail I switched to the single bolt version of this and it feels a lot more substantial and the safety lines sturdier. Can't say anything long term but it feels more well built than my others.
Every now and then I think about switching to a two bolt but I haven't yet.
Hi
I use two streamlined bases for 10 years and no breakage.
I replace the tendons every two years but the base is still the same.
I switch between bases every session and i do around 60 sessions a year, so 30 sessions each year per base.
So the tendon i switch after 60 sessions but the bases still going strong after 10 years.
I only do slalom, no waves.
I use the tan-colored Streamline tendons in Chinook bases. You have to shorten the length a little, but the diameters are perfect. I had troubles with the black Chinook tendons and switched to Streamline.
It is easy to inspect the tendons for cracks. When you see tiny cracks, replace.

My local shop sells replacements. You can also get them online:

There's also the cheaper Duotone clear that failed for you, but I've only ever used the better quality iTendon.

My experience in the cold and dry world, streamlined tendon lasted forever.
My experience in the tropics streamlined lasted 3-6 months. They crumble apart.
The Chinook last about a year here, not sure elsewhere.
Currently using Bic tendon (yes!) for over a year and it looks good so I'm sticking with them for now.
Thanks all, some great advice! Sounds like Streamlined is getting the most mentions so think I will give that a go ??
Happy sailing!

Would agree 100 % with the streamlined crumbling in the tropics, they just fall apart.
Good old Bic UJ's.
