Got opp to buy second hand redline masts...not sure of age...have metal collar on join.
will these still work fine for new 2013/14 blades?
have Severne changed the mast bend character more recently?
thanks a lot qpp
Hi northly, I've had 2010 blades and currently have 2013 blades (4.2, 4.7, 5.3, 5.7, 6.2). I been running gaastra masts on them for the last 4 years. I also have the older redlines 400/430 and they work just as well.
They (gaastra and severne) measure up a 7-9% bend curve, which is a stiff top curve. I've just recently measured (and rigged) a 2014 severne gorilla 430, which came back in the same range. The older redlines tend to be slightly stiffer over all than the gaastra's, which is slightly more suitable if you are a heavy person or are using the mast on the bigger sail sizes in that mast range.
The reason I got into measuring masts is that in 2009 I brought severne 400 & 430 red line's. Blades rigged like s**t on the 400 but ok on the 430. I couldn't work out why until I measured it. The 400 had a 12-13% bend curve and was also very soft.
Severne had a really bad run with masts through the 2009-2010 period, hence I would be careful with these which have black metal collars
The older redline's I have are the ones with the red metal collar and seemed to be quite fine.
hope this helps
Thanks KJ - that's perfect. I have the red metal collar, so sounds like im good with these ones. Thanks for taking time to respond!
