All systems go for this weekends event with very promising conditions in the 20-25 knot range.

Event Type: One hour FreeRace.
Location: Dorans Road
Briefing Time: 10:30am
First Possible start: 11.30am
REQUIRED: BOOTIES - Oysters are located along the foreshore launch area, avoid severe cuts by wearing booties and treading extremely carefully. All oyster cuts are the responsibility of the owner of the feet!

All competitors must be members of Windsurfing Tasmania. You can join on the day, however, it is preferred you join before. Form is available at www.windsurfing.org/files/WT-Membership-Form-2017-2018.pdf please use direct debit details on form and email form to Gill's email given on the form.

All competitors must attend the briefing and sign on and sign off at the end of the designated event time as indicated during briefing. (Event location may change, so please be at the briefing to find out where to go)

The FreeRace is a fun GPS event where sailors are given a start time (UPS+10)and have one hour from that (you can be out sailing anytime before that, but only from that time will be counted) time to just get out and sail as hard as they like within a defined area, usually approximately 4 square km in area (wear a time piece). This allows sailors to sail 'their own' race without the hassle of using gybe markers. Gps's are used to track the sailor and calculate their average speed, or distance travelled during the prescribed one hour time frame.

Approved GPS's for these events are GT31 and GW60 (others may be considered by request before Friday)). There a few GPS's that members have kindly offered to lend out for the event if you do not have a device. If you wish to borrow one of these, please send me a personal message via seabreeze to secure your loan for the day.

It is law to wear a buoyancy vest (life jacket) in Tasmanian waterways, it is up to competitors to use their common sense and abide by these laws where possible or as required due to location and type of waterway.

Any questions please post here or send me a p.m.

Cheers

Kaleb

Are there any other sailors with children who will be around???

I was going to be there with my kids- happy to look after other people's kids while they sail, or sail if someone can look after mine.

Forecast looking promising- fingers crossed.

You idiots didn't pick up my other 'intentional mistake'. Anyone like to have a go at 'spot the stuff up'

I don't like to talk the conditions up too much because as we know Huey has a way of changing things at the last moment.
However, it's looking pretty dam awesome for Saturday. I hope everyone gives it a go, lots of sailing to be had.

Can't wait. Looking like a great forecast for this event and a great opportunity for sailors who haven't sailed Dorans to give it a go! Bring a small sail!

Fantastic conditions and a great event.

12 sailors on the water with solid 20-30 knot conditions.

Seeing the guys and girl battling it out for honours was very impressive, screaming along with 6 plus metre sails in 30 knots through the chop with not much more than a fin touching the water...while at the other end of the field the wooden spoon could be dictated by who dropped the most gybes or didn't sort their GPS device properly prior to the start.

We await the results!

We were lucky to get a full hour in today with a very uncharacteristic November weather system producing winter like gusty conditions all week. It was a real test of tactics and luck, as every run had many changing variables to test sailors.
Big thank you to Mort, Cookie and Clarence for taking the time to travel south and enjoy the camaraderie that FreeRace has to offer. Also from me, a big thank you to the southern crew for supporting the event and making the most of the conditions, thanks guys!
I'm still waiting on files from 2 competitors(my error for not having them now) and they will slot in somewhere over the next day or so, but as i have it at the moment the ranking from today is as follows:
Kaleb
Dave
Steve
Karen
Russ
Fergus
Brendan
Bear
Tim
Clarence

Mort and Cookie still to come.
Thanks to everyone who participated and helped out and I hope that those who could not make it due to work and other commitments, get to enjoy the next event

I knew you lot were fast, but Kaleb's average was nearly better than my top speed. It was awesome to see the skill and commitment to control those big sails in the conditions. Thanks for organising a great event, and thanks to Huey too!

Thanks for changing the date Well done everyone, was the hardest 1hr race ever great that there was sailors coming out of the woodwork, first timers and a lot coming from all around the state. Bring it on!!
well done Buzzy, your speed is amazing, you flew past me and I thought, how does he do it. Well done Dave as runner up down in the flats and Steve hanging on to that 7.0 & 114.
