I am thinking that early November (maybe the 7,8th) might be a good time to run a GPS , Slalom and general social sailing weekend at Low Head. It would be good to run a few events together to make it worth while for people to travel including a BBQ, Pizza night at my shack at Low Head. I am pretty flexible on dates but generally November is a windy month. Low tide is around 3pm and is a .98 m which is sailable I think. This means that the flattest water should occur through the afternoon which is a good thing. I have a small inflatable for setting buoys and to provide some basic safety.
If the forecast is extreme it would be good to fit in a wave expression session but usually these things need more flexibility with dates than the flat water sailing. We could even try to fit a wave contest in on a weekend in September if Huey gives us the conditions....Bakers can work at that time of year....
Hey Al
I think Monday 2nd November is the Recreation Day holiday if you are still looking for a long weekend.
Hey Al

I thought about that but the tide is better the following weekend, the holiday is only in the north of the state and often there are lots of other events on long weekends so it might lower the participation. Regardless we are not locked in to a weekend yet so I am keen to hear what people think.
Parky... I am pretty happy to run a Noobs slalom race for guys like you and me....we can see if the massive acceleration of your Futura can match the mellow gybing of the Atom....or if you prefer we could make it a drag race and have a finish line over near Kelso and eliminate all that crazy gybing stuff altogether.!!!!!!
This is so good, straight line events only. Gunna cut the fin down on the Gemini and flatten anyone who comes close.
If this doesnt work, we'll just use it as a 2nd safety boat.
Additionally we could set up a fixed location for Alphas and see if we can bust our 12kts PB. Or, there could be an event where each entry has to complete the course with 2 POB.
I think a race across the Tamar would be fun. Start on the beach at Kelso finish on the beach at Lagoon.
Perfect date for me, wouldn't have been able to make the long weekend. Been waiting a long time for a home advantage... All this time pretending im a bit slow is about to pay off
Alpha comp on the Gemini sounds incredible... racing across the Tamar at low tide... love it all!
Topping it all off with a pizza night! wow Im so booking a cabin and staying all weekend
OMG what if Clarence misses the mark and ends up on King Island you may need a forty four of fuel in the blow up rescue thingy Al??
Like the Dash for Cash on the Derwent......................that's always fun, anyone can do it (with a life boat)...................might have to tie a rope to Clarence to keep him in the river.
Also good to have a wave event at Bell Buoy some time in spring. I reckon an expression session will get more people interested than a full blow comp, but either way Low Head is the place to do it.
I reckon a Le Mans style start like they had back in the day when fins weren't 3 foot long. A le Mans start from Kelso and everyone would be walking for half the distance till the water was deep enough. Don't worry about King Island Parky, I'd be warming up the barbie at Lagoon while everyone was still wading. Sounds like a good idea all round Al.

Ok so I think the general response to the dates (7 and 8th of November) has been pretty positive. There seems to enthusiasm for a race across the Tamar starting over at Kelso and finishing at Lagoon. It has been suggested that the finish should be like the L to L with people running up the beach. This would be exciting but if it was towards low tide I can see some risks of fin damage so it would be better if this was done at around half tide or higher. A race at low tide would probably need a finish line halfway in from the sandbar. The start line would depend on wind direction on the day but its pretty easy to find a knee deep spot over at Kelso.
My impression from Stanley is that the balance between Drag racing, Gps racing and Slalom racing can be decided closer to the day depending on who wants to race and what the conditions are.
I probably should start a separate thread for a September wave contest. It would be good to organise something on one of the windier weekends and keep the location mobile till the last 48 hours.

I am assuming this photo means that you guys/girls are coming up for the race which is fantastic.....and wont be drinking any beer!!!!!......I guess the rocket launcher is to combat the Gemini? .......Its going to take more than a rocket launcher to stop that thing.
The photos Fos sent,,,,,,,,,,, very politically incorrect you guys will have a windhad on your hands ,iwindsurfhad is what to expect ,so bring your guns, 8,foot 2 , single, 8 foot2 QUAD, 8foot tri,
All very explosive wave destroying machines ,good luck to the participants
Just studying those photo's Fos put up on my big screen. You guys are naughty, your playing with fire Look what happened in Paris in January The thought freaks me out but I do love Al's YMCA.
Is the November weekend shindig still looking like a goer (weather permitting)? If there's any plans for a bit of sociability Sat night, I'll apply for a leave pass for an overnighter.

Yep be mindful; humour is subjective. What may seem innocent fun can land you in a power of s$/t

Yes its all going to happen (7 and 8 Nov)... I will fine tune the details during the week but at this stage the plan would be to have Pizza / BBQ at my place at LOW HEAD on Saturday night. Hopefully the wind cooperates as it has been a little hard to predict in the last few weeks.
I have just unpacked the prizes for the race weekend . I have got some Starboard tees, a lycra top, a Starboard backpack, some caps and a few Tiki tools.
To race you need to be a current WT member or to pay the $15 event fee on the day.
