So guys what do you think about starting a GPS/speed sailing group on Whatspp? I would be very keen as no one seems to post on Seabreeze now that their heading to the epic spots. I'm very keen to go to these epic destinations but I never know when people are thinking of going. I find it more fun and motivating to go if I know others are going. Interested?

Kazz ,
good point.
most of the speed/slalom guys have not even joined the what app windsurfing group. we now have 30 in the group in southern Tas.

Perhaps they afraid of giving away the secret/perfect day, where they get the "spot record".?

Please get on board, we only need one Whatapp for windsurfing in southern tas and it would be great if everyone shared where they are sailing.
After all-- the numbers are dropping in the sport.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to the current Whatsapp Tas group let me know,i.e improvements' , things annoy you about posts etc.
we want to keep this message group so everyone enjoys and gets all the latest up date on the spot wind/wave conditions.

No good telling everyone how good a sail you had when you get home!, share it amongst active windsurfers on the spot via a message in your phone.

if you want to join the windsurfing whatsapp download from iTunes or play store and then SMS me so I can add you to the group.

I dont think this is the case at all. Personally I would love to see to as many people go to these spots as possible. Bring it on baby.
My thoughts are more that if say for example you post Port Sorell is going to be 40 knots NW like last Monday and it turns out to be a dud which it did then you feel bad for those who go all that way and get skunked. Same locally I always used to put posts on saying Dorans, Marion, Pittwater or where ever. Again if people drive all the way to Marion and its no good. Just my thoughts anyway, sorry if I am off the mark. I will get the App and give it go.....

More the merrier!
Certainly dont feel bad you post Dorans is good and 4 out-- then the wind dies.
At least messaging/ whatsapp/forum all combined lets people know that at least there is a potential for a sail, if they drive down and it drops bud luck.

More gps/slalom guys on the existing whats app would be good as it lets other windsurfers know ( who are perhaps not quite in the know!) where the action is to get some speed and try out gps etc.
The follow on could be good to gain more popularity into this side of the sport, more members in Tassie Speed Seekers etc.

I think Seabreeze is good for posting where you might be going next day or during the early morning based on forecasts and real time trends but the particular value of Whatsapp is that sailors just leaving home can say where they are going or better actually on location can report what they are seeing. Yep sometimes it doesn't work out and you can go somewhere on good advice and find it is all over but it is surely much better than no on-site info. Anyone relying on (say) Willy Weather lately would be quite disappointed with the wind strengths forecast (which do come from BOM) and as Steve said you can make a big trip and find no action. I am a new player with Whatsapp and so far have found it quite useful although I acknowledge I need to train myself to post more frequently. One thing for sure is that if someone posts that it looks good and you hear no more then you can be sure they are out there.

Don't feel bad about posting that it's going to be on at certain spot then it doesn't and you get skunked, that's all part of windsurfing, you really can't predict the weather down to a tee. And really it's down to the individual if they want to take the risk or not. So ok posters it's not your fault!!
