Willyweather got it right on the day. Was a bit gusty 17-23 but got us going to 30kts. gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2016-09-25&team=48

Do you use inverloch or inverloch pier?
Inverloch Pier will give the tides too, they'll all be interpolated anyway, the closest actual weather station is pound creek

OK, thanks. Which forecasts do you use? Met eye seems to have the same forecasta as Willy weather. I've been told that wind guru is basically pound creek, but pound creek itself is sheltered from the wind, so the actual inlet wind speeds are 5 knots more.
I guess I should just pick the most optimistic forecast.
I suppose some of it is just familiarity with the weather patterns. Willyweather and meteye are Bom afaik. WW only gives you the average wind speed, so you can usually add at least 3 knots for gusts. If the arrows all line up the same way for the whole day then the wind will not have holes in it. Fronts are N followed by W followed by SW. Inverloch entrance is no good with anything with North, but Area 45 can work on NW, W and E. Light rain usually means squalls from SW or W

Ninjury,
Thanks a lot. It now makes sense why sometimes it's really gusty.
Westerly will always have holes in the wind at Invy as it get bounced around from the headlands. That's why 45 is a better choice with that direction

You mean by the time it gets to 45, the wind will have smoothed out as it has travelled 5 km over the water?
I was waiting for that bank to seal over! Just need an epic westerly now.
Oh look - next Wednesday perhaps!
