Seems the promise of a good solid Easterly has bought a few visitors down to Albany for a bit of flat water blasting. They were all saying something about while the Fangman is away it's time to play

Nice to meet some of you yesterday & thanks for the advice on what fins are good to run in that area Stroppo

If these pics work out ok I'll try & post some more later.

Tbanks for the nice pics Mort! Detail/focus in images both close-in and far away (i.e. other side of harbour, though not that it really matters!) is impressive, so what camera were you using?

I noticed the same thing. The depth of focus is surprising for what appears to be a quite long lens.
Luv ya work!

Great point I hadn't noticed that, maybe he's waded out and got real close to the action? The foreground seems to be a bit more out of focus.

OK I've found an image of Binny with a similar background taken in 2012, to the 4th from last image

This was taken with a Nikon SLR D3100, a bit weird the excif says it's 130mm focal length, but the lens goes to 300mm, why wasn't I on max?
So definitely a telephoto shot, and looks to be taken from a higher vantage point.

Thanks for the kind words on the photos It's definitely the camera making the pics look good not me!

The Camera in question is an Olympus OM-D E-M5 (not the flash new Mark II that was recently released) using a Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm lens that came with the camera. I bought it when I saw the following deal posted on Ozbargain last year www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188390. A good site to keep an eye on, as they know about anything & everything that's on special, except maybe Windsurfing gear

The pics are taken from the little grassed rigging area just the other side of the bike/walking path. The lens was at maximum zoom & then I just used Paint to crop the images down. For example the pre cropped image Decrepit posted above I've posted below.

Hope that helps answer the queries

Something about foreground to background contrast in images that really appeals to me!!!! Probably helps that I'm a 'local', though think that Morts superb still images make this spot look even better than it is when you're actually near the shore (I often bike ride past this end of the harbour a number of times each week so I see a lot of it!).

Thanks for the pics morts -great shots!
re back ground focus-small aperture will give this effect-I suspect most of these where at f16 to 22?

More hoonin' going on again out there today with 20-30 knot easterly! Likely the windiest start to a year since I moved to Albany in 2000.

See that brown line out there Anita, that's the weed bank, just this side of it is as glassy smoooth as Fangys gets in the heavy weed. With the right tide there's a good NM of it, just shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh all the way! By the sounds of it the tide was a bit too low to achieve that.

a 45º weedy will do the trick but can grab weed at the shallow end.

Increased rake does make it easier possibly even provides some tail lift when hitting the really dense weed.

All weedies are going to have drag going through the week

All weedies unless made abrasion resistant are going to have a munted looking leading edge at the end of the day
