Please send me a PM if you would be *seriously* interested in a retro equipment speed challenge? You will be supplied with 2 boards and 2 rigs from 1992 ish. Everyone will:
(1) buy-in for an entry fee
(2) share around the gear a week at a time - period depends upon the number of entrants, but you should get two or three randomly assigned weeks spread over the year
(3) upload data with honesty (and I am thinking a witness required for the sesh)
(4) drop off gear as allocated so the next person can get it for their week - no 'whinge whinge I got delayed at Lilacs blah blah'.
(5) win $$$$$$ for best 2sec and best alpha (cos early 1990's boards are pretty fast as we know, but gybe it? Well.... :)
Also seeking a helpful person to assist with maintaining records and maybe be avail for gear swaps if I can not assist.
(EDIT - you need to have a GPS and use the GPSTC site, I am running it not holding hands as I don't speed sail, nor like computers )
Great idea. Have you considered running it as a day event instead? Doesn't have to be speed oriented only in that case, can do a fun slalom race too. I think bringing everyone together can be more fun than doing this solo.
I've been given heaps of retro boards that I can bring to the beach and maybe allow modern sails to be used.
Yeah im not a GPS guy but id happily race a retro slalom event if it was on a day or weekend somewhere. :)
Too hard as a one dayer folks. Wind goes up n down and no tuning is avail to competitors. Speed places are not metro.
This is the whole deal as if you wanted to go fast on your kit and spend a long time getting it right. Everyone getting a few mins won't achieve that, I am trying to exclude the one lucky run. Who is fastest?
Hmm yeah, guess that is a small target group that probably rather sail on their modern boards. Think doing a fun race in a metro area on a weekend would see more interest.
Also looks like I will have the gear for the 12mths, win it by default, and thus get my own $100 back
