I relocated to Safety Bay last year and despite the average season really enjoyed the bay and other spots in WA when the sea breeze was ON. Clearly the season is over now but still hoping to sail a fair bit the rest of the year.

Looking for some advise on sailable spots with the more Easterly directions. I understand the wind might be gusty and unreliable but are there some flat water or easy wave spots during the winter months that are still worth it? Happy to travel 45 mins during the week or up to 90 mins weekends.

The comments on Pelican point topic are not too promising and looking at the map there seem to be a few spots like The Estuary (Mandurah) or Woodman point but hoping to find something better and maybe even closer :)

My pool could be great for freestyle but I'm not so into that ;)

You might want to try Palm Beach in an easterly or north-easterly. Sure, it can be gusty, but at this time of the year it's a good option for a sailor desperate for some water time. I'd suggest you launch at the big blue toilet block on the Esplanade... at the boat ramp. It's pretty safe as you're inside the Causeway to Garden Island. It's a sandy beach, but with a few minor rocks to watch out for when launching.

Thanks for the suggestions so far Mark and Mark :)

Checked out Palm Beach and can definitely work so will update when I've sailed there. We were lucky with the SSW last Sunday and it seems to be picking up as we speak so might be able to sail Safety Bay this arvo again.

The stories about Woodies are not that inviting (kiters, thieves, shallow, ships, cobblers) but guess I just give it a go and experience it. Is windsurfing gear also considered valuables or should it be safe to leave that in the van? What does it mean in practice? Should I expect a broken window when arriving back at the car or as long as no valuables are in direct sight it should be ok?
