I advise that the Swan River Festival of Windsurfing is now planned to be taking place on Saturday 1, Sunday 2 and Monday 3 January 2022 with a reserve or additional date of Sunday 9 January, 2022, if required for events. All volunteers are willing and water space is booked. It is going to be awesome ! I am excited about this- are you ?
We now have added a New Years Eve Party for 31 December 2021 and a pre-series invitation race for the pre-regatta festivities. Awesome event taking shape.
Here is a reminder of this great event and our revised brochure. Also we have looked into the issue of numbers for wingfoilers and note at the recent 32 competitor wingfoil regatta held at the esteemed St Francis Yacht Club in California, wingfoilers carried unique numbers on their rashies front and back and just a reminder similar unique and legible numbers will be needed for your wingfoil entries into this regatta. We surmise that PFDs will be worn underneath your rashvest where using the wingfoil adaptation.
Bryan McDonald:
One of the coolest aspects of sailing is the blending of different ages/generations on the water.
Here we have, from left to right, @kai_mirel , @ackermanbilly , @chris.mcdddd , @stefanusviljoen and @chipwasson . So cool to see the groms Kai and Chris mixing it up with the veterans Stefans and Chip (not sure how old Billy is so don't know to call him a grom or veteran .
For reference, here are the places after five races that they ended up:
1) Stefans
2) Billy
3) Kai
4) @usa4 (not pictured)
5) @hnvare (not pictured)
6) Chris
7) Chip
. and the list goes on and on and on to 32 places! #legit
Thank you @stfyc for an amazing regatta!: @sailing314

"The efficiency of these foils, total lack of any type of wake and magical levitation appearance above the waves is awesome to behold. Combined with the simplicity and ease of winging (note, no harnesses are needed and the breeze was a blistering 25-30knots this day) makes entry into this class incredibly appealing." Per Bryan McDonald.
Legendary big wave surfer Greg Noll, who just passed away at the age of 84 of natural causes, may his memory be a blessing, had nothing to do with windsurfing other than tangentially as far as I know. However the Swan River Festival of Windsurfing is inspired by the Noosa Festival of Surfing and the Biarritz Festival of Surfing both of which great events Greg Noll was involved in and one time or another with the mythical late Miki Dora (whose disdain of windsurfers and indeed of anyone else in his way, in the line up is legendary) in promoting the reincarnated Da Cat line of surfboards. Greg Noll we salute you for a life well lived in the pursuit of water related adventures and we hope our event will be as fun as possible for all entrants.
"As well as becoming one of California's leading surfboard manufacturers, Greg went on to a stellar big wave career until 1969, when he famously rode "the biggest wave ever ridden" at Makaha Point, came in and retired to become a professional fisherman in Northern California. That phase had passed and he was back in demand as a shaper - mostly retro logs - when I first met him at early surf trade shows in California in the 1980s. Our paths crossed again at the Biarritz Surf Festival in France in the '90s, when he was reviving his Da Cat model with Miki Dora, and when John Brasen, John Lee and I started thinking about creating a similar surf festival in Noosa, strangely the big wave legend whose feet hadn't been in the wax for 30 years was the first international guest I invited. At the inaugural Noosa Festival of Surfing in 1998, affable Big Wave Greg got us all the headlines we needed and never tired of signing his famous big wave posters for fans, and he and wife Laura fell in love with Noosa. In fact on a trip up the beach to Double Island Point with a local crew, and after a splendid beach barbie lunch cooked by Noosa's leading French chef, and washed down with some good wines, the boys nearly got Greg to paddle out for an ankle-snapper. (At the last minute Laura subbed for him and stood up a couple of times.)"

All you need is full WWA membership with insurance to be eligible and as long as you have a windsurfing craft of many types with sail numbers will be fine and you can change gear for every race or use the same in any so there is no excuse. Show your mettle and test it against many other sailors and may the best win. Otherwise just enjoy the fun on the course race, marathon and slalom courses and train for the next event. All races will be in the afternoon on courses designed for strong winds. Already we have world class entrants.

Darryl Griffiths AUS-049 laying down the challenge as the best development class sailor who builds his own boards on foil gear.
Can you be faster than Darryl ? Have the courage to sail gear made by yourself. True Pan Am Cup style spirit. Will Bugs enter his new foil design ? Lindsay Preece of Ironbark Photos is covering so you will likely be photographed...get on board now !
Peter Dans 25 getting his new gear RRD/NP in the groove for the event (photo by stanley71). It is a long way from Sotavento in 1988 where Peter is also shown on his Santosha/NP (photo by Alex Williams). PD is clearly serious about matching up in the slalom event against his long time competitor Paul White. Good luck to both and all competitors !
Swan River Festival of Windsurfing entries now approaching over 32. Closing soon...wind forecast looks awesome. Get on board today to avoid disappointment. Sailing Instructions out now and for NOR and entry portal see:

We're looking forward to seeing you at the Bay!
Mike Kilduff NZL-12 will be chartering a 1993 Mistral Equipe 1.5 CHS using his 2004 Mistral 7.4m2 One Design sail for course racing and marathon and using a "two speeds" rapid uber fast "super lightened" 1993 Mistral Energy with vintage Ezzy Slalom 6.0 m2 for the Slalom races. Sounds like a potent choice for the Kiwi rocket. See you out there !
