Hi there.
I'm planning a trip to WA for windsurfing and surfing, maybe some wing foiling as well. And would like to ask you guys for some tips and advices about what gear to bring, which vehicle to rent, places to go, etc.
I will be there from mid October until mid November, travelling with my girlfriend. I'm a light(ish) rider, around 70 kg. My interest is wave sailing. At home we use mainly small gear, I have 3.3, 4.0, 4.5. 74lt and 84lt.
I was thinking just to bring the 4.0 and 4.5 and the 84 board.
Flying to Perth with the idea to rent a camper van or motor home for the whole time.
Would I need a 4XD vehicle, or will it expand a lot my options? Any tips about where to rent it?
My big gear would be ok for that time of the year?
Any tips about on which spots focus more or spend more time?
Thanks a lot and looking forward to be there!!
Cheers
Andres
Just two sails is a bit dicey. It is early in the season and might only be a week of wind in the month. Further north is better at that time so do two weeks in Exmouth then two in Geraldton
Bring at least 4 sails 4 to 5.3 if youre putting in proper time bring enough gear
Regarding vehicle rental try the usual suspects such as Brits, Appolo or go the cheap route such as Crickey Campers. Prices are pretty astronomical these days. Last time I checked for a motorhome with Brits it cost about $450 per day. Before COVID you could get them for about $250 a day. Crickey campers were going for as little as $60 per day. Be careful using Camplify. I have had some pretty bad experiences with private rentals through them.
You'll need to book sooner rather than later as pickings are slim during school holidays at the end of September / October.
RE 4WD, you don't need one for most of the windsurf spots in WA. The few spots you do you probably won't find without the help of a local anyway.

84 l is pretty big for 70 kg you'll get most use out of a 5.0.I'm slightly heavier and 5.0 is the biggest I take anywhere on my 78.If you can grovel well in good waves I'd bring the 74.
