Decided to begin playing around with a front strap. I purchased the F-one v-strap. Putting my foot under the strap is ok when I'm barefoot, a little snug with 2 mm booties, but way too tight with 5mm booties.

Do others have this issue? Do people use spacers between the deck and the strap to create more space for the foot? Are F-one's especially tight? Should I try another brand?

Cheers,
J

I would just make a spacer with anything incompressible.
Probably run with like 5mm conveyor belt rubber, given the numbers u mention. Rubber best to avoid twisting .....but bit of nylon chopping board or wood or PVC or......

The issue would be needing longer screws as in many board with M6 plastite / PT / theread forming screws like those from almost all Cobra boards, you suimply can;t get them longer.

F-One recommends just a normal M5x25 self tapper though so getting a 30mm long instead of the recommended 25mm would do it.

I thought v straps were a good idea til i realised not adjustable.... why not have them like what everyone has used for 30yrs in other watersports, and put up with 100g more? Kids / bigfoot etc can't use them...

On max setting they are looser than the North V straps and about the same as Dakine foil crush wing straps. I put spacers under my North ones but only 1.5m thick each end, made a noticeable difference. I 3D printed mine but I expect bike tube would work fine

Starboard makes very long ones. Easily accommodate my 46 feet in 5mm booties.

Stop being silly. That makes far too much sense.

This sounds like a good idea but I'm new to watersports so don't know anything about gear of yore

Is there an older design that could work better? I don't understand, "...and put up with 100g more?"

Yes but never ever use Starboard screws in other boards

industry standard is M6 plastite screw and they changed to M7 a few years ago for no reason.
I see boards with split inserts full of water all the time. visually it's hard to tell at a glance too

Windsurf footstraps have velcro overlapped and enclosed. You can alter the foot strap size to suit different sized feet, or to your desired level of tight/loose. Don't know why the concept hasn't travelled across to winging (yet). Yes, they'll be a little heavier than what vstraps look like theyll weigh.

there are flatter/lighter/less water absorbent footstraps available (starboard drake/severne) that you might be able use in place of v straps, given the singular mount point at the back, the flatter thickness might work a bit better. They use a selection of holes to provide adjustment rather than velcro. But don't quote me on whether you'll be able to make it work..

Aha. Thanks for the explanation.

Maybe this is the solution.

V-Strap made like a Windsurfing Footstrap and massive adjustable range.
Perfect for my needs
