Any tips or good tutorials on how to jump higher? Most of what I see online is pretty basic for first time jumping. I feel like Im maxing out at ~6 feet (guessing) and can't reliably get any higher. Of course bigger ramps and more speed helps, but any other techniques that can be shared to get higher?
How hard upwind are you cutting to jump? If I cut too hard upwind I lose some speed and can get unstable in the air.
I feel like I bring the wing above my head for loft as I'm leaving the water, but maybe this kills my trajectory and throws on the brakes too much? Should I wait to bring it overhead until later in the air? Any thoughts around this?
Thanks
Two flat water jumps in the very beginning of this clip. Try to find a little bit of chop, dive the board towards the water, without it actually touching the water, step on a back foot a lot, and try to time the moment the foil leaves the water so you would use the little ramp to its full potential. And yes, bring the wing above a bit later, not right away. Looks windy but I was not actually that powered up with a 2.5 m2.
Get the Surfr app, it calls out heights for each jump. It's a rearly good motivator. Speed is your friend too, bear off hard before arcing back up into a ramp. Move your hands back a little too.
If you really want to take jumps serious, you need to get a foil with a fuller leading edge.
High aspect won't always jump as big as a mid aspect foils like a Phantom - s, they jump higher than a sk8. Then a wing which generates heaps of loft. My jumps were 3-4m max on v2 strikes. V4 I'm jumping 6m in the flat.
You need to hit max speed then go for it!
I went from a relatively long fuse to quite a shorter fuse and really noticed a difference in jumping. The change in pitch control made for higher jumps as the foil certainly comes up quicker.
Look at video of pros, they are turning a tad upwind and put their wing into the wind and they use the wind to fly, it's not just the speed.

For me it's still point low for speed, then point high for more apparent wind and load up that foil then boost on some chop. Still feels like edge, load, and pop from kiting.
