Hello,

with all the recent evolution in terms of board shape and foils performance, I am starting a bit to re-think my Wing quiver. At the moment I got a slick 5.0/3.5 with a KT drifter 80L and sabfoil foil blade and medusa.
I mainly ride freeride/freerace.

Looking at the mid length as an example the R winger from JP got a nice balance length by width similar at the JP freefoil 105 that I use for windfoiling and that I can use also for ligth wind winging.

Base on my windfoil experience the reduced width get me saving few kts on low end with same sail or to reduce the surface at equivalent wind speed. And I build my quiver on a 1 front wing and playing only on sail size.

We have also wing design and material evolution changing there ability.

If I look at the winging for 12kts low end with my 76kg could I perhaps change my 5.0 for a 4.5?
Looking at High wind I got slalom oriented front wing could I ride the 4,5 by 30 kts?

at this moment Could I consider a 1 wing quiver to cover 12 to 30kts?

Do you have any experience on this kind of minimal quiver?

With a single foil, and a wind range from 12-30 knots, I can't see any way to get by with a single wing. Even 2 wings is going to be tough without changing your foil. The size of your foil is a big factor in how to construct your quiver, and you left that info out. Also, while your wind might range from 12-30, its important to know what the most prevalent wind is so you can tailor around that sweetspot.

4.5m is doable at 12 knots with a big foil, very good technique and an efficient midlength or dw board. But 4.5 in 30 knots would be survival mode, particularly with that same big foil.

I think a 5/3.5 or 5/3 is as minimal as you can get away with in that range, and even then, I'd want two foils or at least a couple of stabilizer options.

Hello,

sorry wasn't clear on the available foil, as a big one I got the medusa pro w909 (1000cm2) after I got W1000/800/740/607 (987 to 440cm2) that I use for windfoil slalom or kite foil for the 2 small one.
Totally agree 1 wing and 1 front wing will not bring me fare away.

I don't, but my wife did use a 4.2 for this wind range when she started, and had just a couple of wings (she never liked wings bigger than 4.2, and uses them very rarely). But in the couple of years since then, that has changed, and she is now eager to switch to a 3.3 in about 17 knots, and a 2.5 in 23 knots, while often mentioning she could use a smaller wing for the really windy days. She's on a single front wing quiver (Armstrong HA 680).

I found that the more I wing, the more I like to be on the correct size wing for the conditions. I still appreciate the range wings offer when it's super-gusty or when the wing increases or drops, but otherwise, I'd rather be on just the right size instead of the next size up or down, both of which might also still work. It's more fun this way. I end up using wings until they really need to be replaced, so having more wings (4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 6.5) does not really add to the costs, although it means I may be on older wings than I'd be with a smaller quiver.

Hello,

thank you for your feedback, look like the best option is to go step by step. I will replace my actual board for a mid length probably the JP R wing to keep the same ratio as my know JP Freefoil' and from there test with my actual wing and foil quiver the impact on wind range for each size and from see if I need any adjustment on wing size

For something different, I been demoing a 7m Duotone Ventis dlab 2025 on flat water, me 74kg.
I've had several sessions in wind from 5/6kn to 20kn with amazing bottom end to amazing stability and balance at 20kn.
I rate this windwing as having an amazing wind range for flate water use and doubt anything else could match it???

I can definitely pull that off:

86kg rider
Sunova Carver 5'10"x20" 85l
AFS Silk 1050
Ocean Rodeo 4mAA

I'm pretty sure I've ridden that exact kit in 12-30 knots. However, it's not really what I want to do at the high and low ends. I'd rather have a larger foil at the lowest end of the spectrum (but the 4m works) and I'd rather have a smaller sail at the high end of the spectrum (the 1050 works at that wind speed but you can tell it's slowed).
