Those lucky Apple users have a great app called Windpseed and apprently its great, I have searched high and low to see what I can put on my android watch to track me specifically for wing foiling and I cannot find anything.Yes I could put strava, I guess but then I would have to select windsurfing, it seems Strava have made a statement that they are not adding any new sports, so we are out of luck there.Any ideas??

I used to have a Samsung watch, and I used Strava, and there is a sailing sport option which I always use. I have now switched to a Garmin, which is just better in every way, and I charge it every 2-3 weeks. I have the Fenix 6x Sapphire, which has no touchscreen, which I prefer. There's a heap of sailing plugins you can get, which are better than water speed and free. Also, an android app you can try is Zef :) I used it as well, and it works fine. It is similar to waterspeed. zef.watch/
Donathon, I have an apple and used to use Waterspeed. But switched to Strava as it seemed better. You can edit your activity after you've stopped your session and change it to wingfoil, mountain biking, rotten tomato throwing or whatever you think is relevant.
Go to the activity and click on it. There will be 3 small circles in the top right of the screen. Hit them and you'll get a drop down list of things you can do. Click on Edit activity, and you can change the title.
Ask in the GPS speed windsurfing forum they've been doing it for 20yrs and some folks even built their own so the knowledge there is phenomenal

I'll need to check out Strava. That said I recently started using Waterspeed on an Apple Watch U2 for foil, paddle and surf and I'm really happy with it. The only thin I wish is it would detect wave count when surfing.

You should message Massimiliano with that wish. You can do that from the App, go to settings. I've found him pretty responsive to dealing with issues and constructive feedback.
I second waterspeed. I love that it can detect when you are foiling and log your longest segments and total time on foil. It can also log gybe and tacks.
I use strava extensively for running, cycling etc but for foiling it doesn't offer anything like waterspeed. Fortunately, if you want to keep everything on strava you can sync waterspeed activities over to strava.

Any in particular you recommend? Just ordered a garmin.
Thanks for the post Jonathan. As we have found out that the Apple Watch on waterspeed app can vary up to 4kts less than my mates Garmin GPS watch. It was doing my head in being neck & neck with my mate then discovered my Iwatch was 4 kts less speed.
So quite a discrepancy.Anyone else discovered this issue?

I used to Leigh, but I have the Ultra now and I find that to be pretty close. That's compared to results on my GPSTC approved device (Motion) when speedsailing.

The question is whether the Garmin read too high, or the Apple watch too low. Overstating top speed in spikes is more common than understating by several knots. One way to find out is to look at speed over longer stretches and compare it to the top speed; the difference should be just a couple of knots. If you use apps or k72.com, you can look at 5x10 second average speeds. You can even eyeball the speed graph, here's and example:
Typical speeds were about 11-12 knots, top speed was a bit over 16 knots. Tops speeds were around 16 knots twice, and often around 15 knots, indicating that the top speed is real. If you have just one or two peaks that are a few knots above everything else, it's very likely to be an artifact.
Yes well that's interesting stats but I wasn't about to argue with my mates about how accurate their Garmin GPS are but how my Iwatch with waterspeed app was inaccurate.
Thanks Stretch I will check that out.Is the Ultra a new iwatch?

Had mine 12mths. It has a better gps than the standard Apple Watch
seems like Strava overstates top speed by quite a bit according to my friends. waterspeed there is also a setting to discard the top speed/outlier. I use the 10sec and average of top 5 10sec readings as a measure of general speed during a session. May not be perfect, but it is informative.
I once had my watch buzz a high speed while flagged out lol... said I was going 30kt for 1 or 2 seconds... I wish!
Been very happy with waterspeed... will message the developer to add some crown button functionality to the app as it's very hard to use the touchscreen with wet hands.
