Hi GF ers,
lately Ive been riding the PNL185. It has slightly higher stall speed than my M200 and lower than my NL's. I dont pump it for take off, I just pump the wing and keep the nose pressed down and keep the board low and it just starts to go. For me it feels slippery and responsive and I like riding whatever small swell (we only get very small swell and no waves) is generated. So far its working great in about 11 knots and over. Just wondering if others are having fun on this foil.
Its the big blue one
I ride the P1300 (revised version of the PNL) on the V2 mast for small waves on my downwind board and occasionally use the same set up for winging when it's 8-12. The can opener tips of PNL are a bit scary, but otherwise it's a great foil for a heavier person looking for good speed and carving, and especially easy pumping. Different tails really bring out the range of this foil.
Hwy thanks for sharing. The tips have been rounded down to a small curve and are fine (I did the same on the NL's too - I think Takuma had the right kind of stall tips on their foils) Mine is paired with an FTS14.5 but I would like to ride it with an FTL12.5, looks like I would gain in control and reduce drag.
I picked up a pnl a few months ago when guys were selling off their wings to get the new ones. I intended to use it for sup downwinders when winds were light. I usually am on the RS 1150. However, I have been using it way more than I thought I would. People told me it wouldn't turn good unless I chopped it and also said it would be slower. I'm able to turn it quite well and my overall time isn't more than 2 mins. slower. It pops up easily and is more forgiving when you make mistakes than the 1150. I'll get the 990 at some point but happy with what I have for now.
Sup, thats great, I feel like this foil was a little overlooked, and sure it doesnt turn like a 90cms wingspan foil, but in no way is it heavy to turn, if the wind is up, (which it hasnt been for sooooo long) this is my goto - fun sessions
