I am not an expert in physics etc. but can't we argue that in the tree example as well as with kite, there is a chance that instead of going into the air in an arc, you just kill the speed and come to a complete stop?
Definitely, in fact a slide turn is pretty much exactly that; a slow change of direction upwind until your speed drops sufficiently enough to transition the other way.
Recall the first point to focus on: The more sudden the change of direction, the more like an anchor the kite is going to be. If you turn slowly, the kite will have time to react and dump the power by slipping to another part of the wind window. You need to be going away from the kite super, SUPER fast.
It's a bit like pumping a wave or tic-tacking a skateboard in that experts make it look effortless. They may not even be thinking "sink in the back foot, load up the lines, release the power upward", but they are doing it on autopilot.
edge hard - yep.
body into a squatting position - that's fine (see woosports ep 4. Body Position below)
board almost vertical - if you mean the front of the board, yep. If you mean the edge of the board, Ok, but only to really carve upwind.
choke the kite - yep (this is making sure it stays where it is and acts like an anchor to pull against)
Vrbones once more I cant thank you and the others enough for taking the time to reply in detail and guide me through the issues. I agree as well that what seems to be the problem is releasing my edge and throwing my self forward. It is something I didn't do until now. I will try and get a video or something if I can and post it for some feedback. Hopefully I will get a session soon and apply all these tips. Should I be sheeted in all the way from loading until release or just at the point I will throw myself forward just to get the extra height?
Once more thank you for your assistance.
George

Pull in right when you start leaning forward. The thought process is that you need as much power as possible upon release to explode off the water (the 'pop'). The power generated leading up to release won't do much apart from put you in a position to generate even more power on release (eg: carving upwind demands a heavy application of power down and into the water to initiate a swift turn, but that doesn't help with the pop, the resulting speed away from the kite translates into tension in the lines which helps with the pop).
I assume when you mean load and pop you mean hooked in. It might be easier to learn a Raley. I actually found basic rolls and load and pop tricks are easier to learn unhooked. Watch a few vids on the Raley, put yourself in suicide, and commit. First 2 or 3 you might crash, but you will get the feeling quickly enough.
FYI i still have never done a hooked in front roll, but am on the way to an s-mobe at the moment.
Heyy thank you for the reply. Bit of an update. I managed to pop a bit on my last session. Tried to apply all the things we discussed. It seems the only thing i was missing was the stomp at the end.
Another thing i am doing wrong which i need to sort out is that as soon as i try to edge although i got my hands centered and i am pretty sure i do not move the kite aggressively, the kite tends to drop lower and It doesnt help me pop out of the water cause its in a lower angle. I am on a catalyst at the moment 2014 model but I want to replace it with an rpm soon enough I hope. The low end of the catalyst is crap.
hows ya poppin?
to help the kite not moving, try one hand in the middle of the bar. the other hand a quick board grab.
Guys today I went from completely unable to load and pop to perform hooked in railies. You can't understand how happy I am right now. A little flat water helped out greatly. Thank you very much for everything

What's a hooked in Railie?
