Anyone else had problems with Duotone click bar Safety Line breaking in near top end of black plastic casing.
Lines about 4 months old.
one mate snapped his resulting in kite release only rolled down the beach a few times.Lucky.
Have since had another mate replace his with a different safety line.
Something rubbing safety line inside top end of black tubing near velro thing below throw adjuster.
Worth checking your for your own safety.!!!!
I haven't had it happen but its a common problem with all sleeved safety lines.
I did hear people suggest a length of heatshrink in this area to prevent wear although I haven't checked it myself as I'd be a little worried about the extra diameter stopping the flag out working properly. Might try it to see what its like when I come to replace my lineset. That way if its no good I don't have to work out how to get the heat shrink off without damaging the line.
Blue line in the photo is a replacement from a chandelier.
There must be something abrasive rubbing the red safety line on the inside of black rectangular tubing.
They should last longer than a few months.

Good to see you putting it out there mate. Could save someone some grief.
is the damage exactly in the place where the black depower tubing meets the part with the velcro ie. is the plastic depower tube sharp at the end?
Mine has no wear and I've used it a quite a bit. I waxed it with candle wax, don't know if it does anything but not worse either I'm sure.
Yes, looks like you have a wear spot in that location from your tubing. Not normal based on my experience with the Click Bar but I understand some others have this same issue.
Omg yes that's appears to be the wear position.
Not sure wax would help.
We have several bar bought at the similar time with this safety line wear issue in that same location.
Waiting for a warranty ATM.?
Mine snapped yesterday in the exact same spot. I lost the ball at the end that holds the safety line and had to swim to shore and then chase the kite down the beach. Bar is only 1 year old but I don't live in an area with trade winds so it doesn't see heaps of action
Did you have the Y divider on the center lines or were you using it with out the Y divider just asking
In regards to the y divider. Two of my friends were using the low vee.
which seemed to increase the wear on the safety line where it enters the Velcro thing at the top of the black square tubing.
As the shop pointed out that Duotone says it can be used as low or high vee.
Imo that there is excessive increased wear On the safety line with a low vee arrangement.
So Doutone should not recommend this use of running a low vee and replace On warranty the worn safety lines.
When ever i recommend the low v ,I shift the v or y divider down to the bottom near the end of the PU bit of a hassle but stops any wear , and i agree they dont seem to mention to do this anywhere . But I'm pretty sure duotone would look after the problem on both those lines
hope this helps

Hey George
Yes that's a good call lowering the Y divider just above the entry into the top .
And yes our supplier put in a warranty claim for the guys that developed a problem with the safety line low vee option.
How do you lower the Y divider past the red stopper ball ?
I just removed it, because sometime one of the steering lines got wrapped around it when launching.
Omg as George from Adventure sports mentioned by lowering the vee or y down to just above the depower black tubing that will minimise wear on your safety line .By doing that the safety line enters the tubing more parallel reducing the wearing problem.
BTWay my friends two safety lines and black depower tubing were replaced by Duotone under warranty.
How do you lower the Y divider past the red stopper ball ?
If your really keen you can take the safety line off from the bar end and thread it through the Y divider it only takes 10 mins and leaves the stopper ball on
Myself i reverse the Y divider ( put it on the red line) and use it as a stopper this lets me use both lines for landing and 5th line relaunching during lessons
Hope this helps
George
Does anyone actually use their trim? Ive never pulled any on. Click bar is cool, but only if you actually depower your kite more than once a year.
No about 15 months old
how often do you use it?
did you rinse out the trim system after each session?
No about 15 months old
Hi mate
That bar end looks like a 2017 North click bar?
If so that's a few years old?
So normal wear and tear would be expected especially on the front lines.

It's a 2018 actually and I bought it brand new in the box 15 months ago of a retailer just new old stock I had a 2017 before that and was pretty well looked after before this I've ordered a new click bar but a lot of money to spend again I've never had this in any other bar I've had in 9 years I think I'll sell now every 12 months so no way normal wear and tear 15 months for 900 don't think so mate
Purchased this one new in march.. 10 to 15 sessions in...
Check with your retailer Simon for a warranty claim.
My friends had the same wear on the red safety line
and had the two front lines replaced including the Black depower square tubing.
Safety lines Should not fail that quickly.
Apparently duotone refused the warranty, but WA surf sorted me out with new safety . I'll have a look to see if i can find the cause

Hi Simon
If you go back in the post,George from Adventure Sports has a plan when you use a low vee or Y on the front lines.
He suggests lowering the vee adjuster screw knob lower to just above the PU black tubing.
That reduces the vee angle of front lines into the PU black tubing which reduces wear.
Keep an eye on the safety line wear in that area.
Thanks, it's a good idea, but i only use a mid Y with the duotone thread-thru eye thing. The wear I have is at the other end of the black tubing.
Still not fixed, the replacement part i got isn't quite right. :(
The cause is that the end of the black plastic tubing has a sharp edge that lines up with where the splice tapers thicker. That has just been rubbing away inside there when presumably tension comes on and off the line. I've carefully shaved a chamfer in the end of the tube to hopefully stop it happening again.
Well done .That should be better.
So you think Duotone would consider a warranty if they realised it is a manufacture issue?
Its not the users fault.
Where is their duty of care responsibilities?
Its a safety line?
Just to be safe I will be checking our Click bar safety lines regularly in that area and doing what Simon has done.
